Remembering Sarah Elizabeth Jones

Last week, camera assistant Sarah Elizabeth Jones was struck and killed by a train while working on a film near Atlanta, Georgia. The 27-year-old was a resident of the Atlanta area, working on many film and television projects during her too-short career. Friends and co-workers remembered her love of filmmaking and dedication to the craft. Her tragic death is a terrible blow to her community and her industry, and a reminder of the danger that film crews often brave in pursuit of the perfect shot.

Jones was still at the beginning of her career when she died, leaving unfulfilled the promise of a bright future in the industry. Friends and comrades from the film community are circulating a petition online to add her to the Oscars' "in memoriam" video presentation, dedicated to those the industry lost in the previous year. The petition will be presented to the Academy at 10 a.m. Feb. 28 EST. Visit the petition page to add your voice and name and learn more about Sarah Elizabeth Jones at her obituary page.
