Every day we pay tribute to men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces with our Veterans Memorial Site honoring all who have served our country and are no longer living. This Memorial Day, as we remember those who died in service, we also have a special salute for celebrities who served.
Some of these famous folks joined the military at a young age, before later making their mark. Others put a career in entertainment, sports or politics on hold in order to enlist. Before becoming the first African-American baseball player to enter the major leagues, Jackie Robinson served in the U.S. Army. In fact, it was his time in the Army – during which he coached athletics – that inspired him to pursue a career in baseball.
