Mardi Gras in New Orleans is a season of parades and festivities concentrated in the weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday). Events are organized by social clubs referred to as Carnival krewes. Many krewes present parades, as well as masquerade balls. Since the 19th century, these festivities have drawn revelers from around the world, including quite a few famous faces.
