Celebrities including actors Charlie Sheen and Gwyneth Paltrow, former President George W. Bush, and business magnate Bill Gates have all taken the challenge, raising money and awareness for ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease or motor neurone disease.

As prominent and ordinary people alike continue to dump buckets of ice and water on themselves, spreading the challenge to others, researchers are working toward a cure for this debilitating illness.
