Teen Dies After Haunted House Visit

by Legacy Staff

Ohio teenager Christian Faith Benge collapsed suddenly while visiting a haunted house with family and friends.

Ohio teenager Christian Faith Benge was visiting a haunted house with family and friends in October 2014 when she collapsed suddenly. Christian’s mother, Jean Benge, began CPR but was unable to save her daughter.

“It was just time,” Jean told reporters. “I trusted God. He has an ultimate plan.”

According to Christian’s relatives, the 16-year-old was born with a congenital condition that prevented her lungs from developing fully or functioning normally. This condition, they told the Hamilton Journal-News, caused her heart to overcompensate. At the time of her death, Christian’s heart was enlarged to four times its normal size.

Friends and family remembered Benge as a gentle, kind, and loving young woman with a love of God and a strong faith.

Said the haunted house in a statement: “Christian will be in our hearts forever. The incredible outpouring of kind stories and sentiments from her peers makes it clear that Christian would want her family and friends to find comfort in each other. Based on these sentiments, we ask the community to remember her as the kind and beautiful young person she was. Now is the time to reflect on the joy she brought to so many.”

“She was the sweetest, most generous, kind-hearted, loving person. I just miss her so much. My best friend is gone. But she’s better off,” Jean Benge said. “She’s better off than we are … because of her faith in Christ I know she’s home.”
