Fifty-one years ago today, country music legend Patsy Cline died in a plane crash. She achieved amazing things in her 30 years on earth, rising to superstardom and recording some of the best-loved songs in country music history. She is an icon and widely considered one of the best and most influential singers in country music. But her legacy extended beyond her talent - it also included her fondness for nurturing other up-and-coming female country artists. Loretta Lynn, Dottie West, Barbara Mandrell and other young women who wanted to break into the country music scene got a leg up when they became friends with Cline. Rather than feeling threatened by other talented women who might grow to eclipse her fame, she believed there was "room enough for everybody."

It's in that spirit that on the anniversary of Patsy Cline's death, we present a photo gallery including Cline and other great women of country music who have died. From the early cowgirls to the superstar of the 1960s, '70s and beyond, these women sang and twanged their way into our hearts. Click any photo for more information.
