One year ago today, tragedy hit a quiet community in Florida when neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman fatally shot teenager Trayvon Martin. The shooting has reverberated far beyond Sanford with people across the country trying to make sense of it and many mourning another young man gone too soon. While we may never know what really happened on that rainy night, the impact of the shooting will continue to be felt – by Trayvon’s family and friends seeking justice, and by a nation grappling with the role of guns in the wake of the shooting deaths of children from Connecticut to Chicago and beyond.
