Tad and Jona Johnson are living through every parent's worst fear. Last year their daughter Alexa, 19, was killed in a single-car accident while en route to help a friend. Alexa was not wearing her seatbelt and died instantly.
Tad Johnson soon turned his grief into a mission to save the lives of others. With encouragement from his wife, Johnson created Alexa's Hugs, a Facebook group and nonprofit organization, to raise awareness among young people about the importance of wearing seatbelts. Alexa's Hugs provides colorful, fashionable seatbelt wraps to help remind young drivers and their passengers to buckle up, each and every time.
Alexa's friend Kaley Germer was inspired to start using her seatbelt after speaking with Tad Johnson. In July 2013, five months after Alexa's fatal accident, Germer survived a deadly car crash with only minor injuries, thanks to the message of Alexa's Hugs.
