Samson Warren Obituary

Samson Warren, Jr., 67, of 818 Main Street, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Sampson Regional Medical Center, following a period of declining health.
The funeral service will be a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery, Newton Grove, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2009. The Reverend Walter W. Gaskins, Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends at West & Dunn Funeral Home, Newton Grove, on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 6:00 to 8 p.m.
Sam, as he was known to most everyone today, was the son of Samson Warren, Sr. and Mary Anna Tart Warren. Mr. and Mrs. Warren preceded him in death.
Sam was employed in the Computer Science Department at N. C. State University from 1972 until 1985. After leaving N. C. State, Sam established and was the owner and operator of Sam's Tool Service that provided a valuable tool repair service to the construction and manufacturing industry throughout the area.
Sam is survived by his sister, M. Jo Warren of the home; his brother and sister-in-law, Larry D. and Patricia W. Warren of Newton Grove; as well as many dear and wonderful relatives and friends.
Flowers are certainly welcomed, however, as a long-time, and retired, volunteer fireman with the Newton Grove Fire Department, Sam would request that memorials be made to the Newton Grove Fire Department at P.O. Box 172, Newton Grove, NC 28366.
This service has been entrusted to West & Dunn Funeral Homes, Inc., Newton Grove.

I was sadden by the news of Sam's passing. I was a contractor at NC State and worked with Sam and Don Martin for many years. I've since moved to Wilmington and on a trip to Raleigh last year I stopped at a store in Newton Grove and ran into Sam. We talked and shared stories...He will be missed but always remembered.
