Jeffery Stevenson Obituary

STILLWATER - Lance Cpl. Jeffery S. Stevenson, USMC, 20, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Iraq.

Born in Stroudsburg, Pa., Lance Cpl. Stevenson spent his early childhood in Marshalls Creek, Pa. He was a 2006 graduate of Kittatinny Regional High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corps six months after graduation. Lance Cpl. Stevenson was a USMC machinist with the 7th Engineers Support Battalion, 1st Marine Division, stationed in Camp Pendleton in San Diego, Calif. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo.; his sister-in-law, Brienne Stevenson, and his niece, Taylor Stevenson, also of Cheyenne; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Shirley Newton of Marshalls Creek; and many aunts, uncles and close cousins.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Newton, 54 High St., Newton. Interment will follow in Stillwater Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton.

Your time on earth seemed all too brief
because I wanted you in my life forever.
And although I really miss you,
in my heart I know that you are at peace.
Still, countless times throughout the day
I find myself remembering you.
Although I cannot see or hear you,
I know that you are with me.
I'll feel you in the warmth of the summer sun.
I'll see you in the brilliance of autumn leaves.
You'll be beside me in the peacefulness of a gentle snowfall
and rejoice with me at the emergence
of the first flowers of spring.
I'm thankful for the times we shared
and the priceless memories too;
for those memories are a comfort now when I lovingly -
Remember You.

It has been two years...and it is not easier, time has not healed my weaping heart. I miss you Jeff.

I have waited too long to do this for no reason other than I cant seem to want to admit the obvious…It has been 78 days; 78 long dreadful days…I can’t hear the song from your myspace page, a tribute to armed forces, a scenario on television depicting a military members death, a yellow ribbon, the American flag or even look at a family photo with out sadness and uncontrollable crying. I don’t even know what to say…I love you…I miss you…

Dearest Jeff,
May we find the courage you had in life to continue on with this new journey given to us all. I know forgiveness is the answer, but I don't know who I need to forgive in this situation, as of yet. I have faith that I will know in all due time, when it is time.

IN REMEMBERANCE OF YOU JEFF

May your Spirit soar on your new journey, as it did here on earth with adventure, courage, love and all else that made you special to so many.
May the love of the divine be with you.
May you find joy in your rebirth.
May you recieve our love & blessings.
May you find wisdom and empowerment.
May you find forgiveness for all things.
May you be purged of all unhappiness.
May you rest in peace.

Our souls will always be connected for eternity.

Blessed Be,
Aunt Sherry

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

To the family and parents of Jeffery I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

Jeff was a great guy, which is needlessly said, everyone knew that. I spent a great deal of my senior year with Jeff, although I knew him since 8th grade. He was at most of the parties I went to, all my friends were close with him and he was in my gym class senior year. Our gym lockers were right next to each other and everyday we'd sit and talk about video games, friends and his various pranks he'd pull on people, ha! He always joked around and he was a great friend. Miss you buddy, always.

My deepest condolences for the loss of your loved one. May you find comfort in knowing that soon God will fulfill his promises (Psalms 46:9, 72:7) (Isaiah 2:4) (Daniel 2:44) to bring about peace; and the "last enemy" death will be brought to nothing (1 Corinthians 15:25, 26) (Isaiah 25:8)

Jeff, I miss you brother and words can't even begin to express what I'm feeling right now. Not an hour goes by without me asking God why not me, I already have a wife and a beautiful daughter and you were far too young to even begin to enjoy your life. I'm sorry I couldn't be with you and protect you like I have done so many times in the past and I swear I would take that bullet for you a million times if I could. But you have it easy now Jeff, your work here is done and you can rest with God while we remember and honor you and try to figure out how to move on without our brother, son, nephew, grandson, friend, and most of all best friend. Jeff no one can replace what we had and no one will ever be as close as me and you were and I ask you to give me the strength and motivation that I need to move on and succeed in life again. The one good thing I take out of this is knowing my daughter Taylor now has a gaurdian angel and I know you will not let anything harm her. Although I'm scared she will not remember you because of her age, she knows exactly who you are in photos and asks about you every single day. It was funny because she told me one day that she saw you in the sky while we traveling on an airplane so I know you are with us. Anyway I love you and we all love you and go rest now but not too much, take care of our friends and family. You have many to thank as they have supported and thanked you and our family throught this tough time. LOVE YOU JEFF.

To The Family of Lance Cpl. Jeffery S. Stevenson

My name is Annette. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to each of you.

We are not familiar with one another, We are however familiar with the pain that occurs when enemy death strikes.

When our Heavenly Father created the first man and woman death was optional.

As long as they were obedient to Him they had the choice to live forever. Only by disobeying would death occur.

From the Genesis account we read that they chose the latter. And for this reason is why we have to shed tears of sorrow. (Romans 5:12)

God's purpose for us to live forever has not changed for he promises us (1) that all those in the memorial tombs (graves) will hear his voice and come out and (2) he will wipe away the tears of sorrow from our eyes forever and death will be no more. (Revelation 21:3-5)

Although the pain you are feeling are not remove I hope that knowing that our Creator cares about us and will undo the ill-effects that we suffer will be of comfort to you.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to LCpl Jeffery S. Stevenson our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jeff. And to Jeff it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the Corps and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jeff, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jeff’s family and loved ones.

Dear Karen and Family,
I am so very, very sorry for the loss of your dear and very brave son, Jeff. As a military mom myself, of a son who just deployed last month to Iraq...my heart is simply broken for you, Karen.
I pray God encompasses you all with His never-ending Grace and love during this very sad and sorrowful time in your lives.
I never met Jeff, but knew of him through my mom and your friend, Jane Cavalcante.
I thank him, in prayer, for his gallant service to our Country.
He was a very brave, couragous and unselfish young man. A Hero for us all to be thankful for and to remember always.
God Bless You all and comfort you.
In Love & Prayers,
Cathy

Father we entrust our brother Jeffery to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Jeffery in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

Although I did not know Jeffery as a young man, I did meet him as a small child in Pa. as the family was my sister's next door neighbor. Later in Stillwater, Jeffery's brother Rob was a friend of my daughters and graduated with her in the KRHS Class of 2003. Because of my distant connection to this brave hero, I feel compelled to write a kind word of thanks to Jeffery and extend my sympathy to his family.
