Lawrence Vanderpile Obituary

HAMPTON - Lawrence Harris Vanderpile, 74, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at Newton Memorial Hospital.

Born in Passaic, Mr. Vanderpile lived in West Milford for 10 years before moving to Hampton in 1973. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Panzer College in East Orange. Mr. Vanderpile volunteered for the U.S. Army. He served during peacetime, from 1956 to 1958, and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He was employed by the West Milford Township Board of Education as a physical education and driver's education teacher, retiring in 1992 with 32 years of service. At various times during his career, Mr. Vanderpile coached football, basketball, and baseball. His memberships included the New Jersey Retired Educator's Association, the New Jersey Education Association, and the West Milford Education Association.

He was the son of the late Harris and Grace Liddell Vanderpile.

Mr. Vanderpile is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alwilda Mae VanAtta Vanderpile; a daughter, Jennifer Vanderpile Pasake and her husband, Richard, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.; two sons, Kurt Harris Vanderpile and his wife, Melina, of Somerville, Mass., and Aaron Russell Vanderpile of Hampton; and three grandchildren, James Richard Pasake, Delia Mae Vanderpile and Luci Ada Vanderpile.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Interment will follow in Frankford Plains Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Frankford Plains United Methodist Church, 99 Plains Road, Augusta, NJ 07822.
