Anne Flemming Obituary

NEW BERN, N.C. - Anne Lillian Brucken Flemming, 80, died due to cancer on March 1, 2008 at the home of her daughter in New Bern.

The daughter of Charles and Frances Brucken, she was born in New York City on May 23, 1927, and lived most of her life in Stanhope until she moved to New Bern in 1999. She was married for 48 years to Frederick W. Flemming, who preceded her in death. Together they owned and operated Fredericks Press, a commercial printing business in Stanhope, for over 30 years.

Mrs. Flemming received her bachelor of arts degree from the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station and her master's degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange. Trained as a teacher, she was employed by the Belleville school system until her marriage in 1950. She then joined her husband's business.

Mrs. Flemming served her community as a Girl Scout leader and as vice-chairman of the Stanhope Partnership, a volunteer group adjunct to the town government in revitalizing the downtown business area. Also active in St. Michael's Parish, Netcong, she served as lector, Eucharistic minister, member of the Parish Council, and member of the Liturgy and Finance Committees. She was also the editor-in-chief of a history and remembrance book on the occasion of the church's 100th anniversary.

Other activities included various leadership positions in the Sussex County Business and Professional Women's Organization. She was honored by the Sussex County Board of Freeholders as Business Woman of the Year in 1983.

She is survived by her son, Frederick C. Flemming, and wife, Susan, of Macungie, Pa.; her daughter, Dr. Lois A. Flemming of New Bern; and her daughter, Frances C. Daly, and husband, Stephen, of Greensboro, N.C.; as well as seven grandchildren.

There will be a Memorial Mass for her on Saturday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, Netcong. This will be followed by interment of her ashes next to her husband at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Randolph.
