Robert Whitworth Obituary

HAMPTON - Robert H. Whitworth Sr., 78, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at home.

Born in Kearny, Mr. Whitworth lived in Hampton, then moved to Ocala, Fla., where he lived for five years before returning to Hampton in 1978. He was employed as a security guard at Great Gorge in Vernon for several years before retiring at the age of 65. He had previously worked as a buyer for the former McGregor's in Dover and Newton for more than 20 years. Mr. Whitworth was a former member of the North Reformed Church in Newark.

The son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Brown Whitworth, Mr. Whitworth was also predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Whitworth Jr., and Andrew Whitworth.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, June Smith Whitworth; one son, Robert H. Whitworth Jr., and his wife, Christine, of Andover Borough; one daughter, Deborah Wechtler and her husband, Derek, of Newton; and two grandchildren, Amanda Whitworth and Samantha Wechtler.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Interment will follow at Knowlton Frame Cemetery in Knowlton Township. Visitation will be held Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
