Sonja Welch Obituary

NEWTON - Sonja Lee Welch, 39, of Newton, died Friday at home.

Born in Newton, Sonja was a lifelong Sussex County resident. She was a former auto detail technician for Joyce Honda.

She is survived by her husband, Michael J. Welch; one son, Cory Powers of Landing; her mother, Donna Marie Bocchino and her husband, Kim Anthony, of Kemah Lake, Hampton; her father, Wesley Allen Powers Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Sandyston; and her grandmother, Dorothy Padgett of Georgia.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St., Newton. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Newton Memorial Post 5360 VFW, 85 Mill St., Newton, NJ 07860.

Heavenly Father, we acknowledge You as the giver of life and that you are the one who calls each one of us to eternal life. We present the soul of Your servant, Sonja Lee. We pray for all who have been affected by the death of a loved one and we especially lift up her family that they all will know the comfort, peace and strength of Your love in their lives.

We pray, too, for those who walk in support that they will always bring Your love in a gentle and understanding way. We ask through Jesus Christ. Amen.

So sorry to here of Sonja's passing. We were great friends in school and I will always remember the great times we had at Stoney Lake. My thoughts are with you Donna and Wes and the rest of your family as well.
