Charles Schlotfeldt Obituary

NORTH BERGEN - Charles "Carl" C. Schlotfeldt, 93, of North Bergen died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008.

Born in Coney Island, Brooklyn, in 1915, he was raised in Lohr A Main, Germany. He returned to the United States in 1936 and lived in Jersey City while maintaining a summer residence in Highland Lakes since 1949.

Mr. Schlotfeldt was a skilled machinist and worked for the N.J. Machine Corp. in Hoboken for 30 years. He prided himself on owning properties in Bergenfield, Jersey City, Highland Lakes, Fair Lawn and Fort Lee. His greatest memories are of the trips he took with his family overseas, at times to experience the Olympic games, a passion that began at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He was the founding member of the Bavarians of New Jersey, a German social club based in Carlstadt, and also the Mixed Chorus of the Rheineseher Songerbund. His greatest accomplishments are his family. In the end, what mattered most in his final hour was simply his family's well-being and happiness. He will be greatly missed by his loving family; his wonderful stories will resonate through generations to come.

Surviving are his wife, Trude Weber; two daughters, Joan Marri and Lori Struck; two sons, Carl and Steven; eight grandchildren, Natalie and Joseph Marri Jr., Stephanie, Matthew, Brent and Alec Schlotfeldt, and Amy and Michael Easton; and two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Olivia Marri.

Leber Funeral Home, Union City, is in charge of the arrangements. Cremation will be private.
