Donald Freeman Obituary

WANTAGE - Donald V. Freeman, 80, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Barn Hill Care Center in Newton. Born in Orange to the late Rynear V. and Anne L. Freeman, Mr. Freeman was raised in Irvington and had lived in Denville before moving to Sussex County in 1975.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran who had served on the USS Macon during World War II. He had been employed as a computer specialist for Picatinny Arsenal for 25 years and had retired in 1987. Mr. Freeman joined the Wallkill Valley Rotary Club in 1989 and was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient. He was a member of the Branchville American Legion Post No. 157 and the Denville American Legion Post No. 390, where he served as past commander. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 2519 of Denville, and member and past commander of the 40/8 County Voiture No. 228. He served on the Board of Education for the Morris Hills Regional School, the Denville Planning and Zoning Board and the Wantage Planning Board, and was also a referee for the Denville Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football. Mr. Freeman enjoyed traveling, Yankee baseball, and football games.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy, in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia; his three daughters, Carolyn Mulligan and her husband, Jack, of Tuckerton, Joanne Klein and her husband, Paul, of Piscataway, and Beverly Pullis and her husband, Ted, of Milford, Pa.; his step-daughter, Beth Wilson and her husband, Ernest, of Unionville, N.Y.; and his 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, from the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank St. (Route 23), Sussex. Interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield. Friends may pay their respects to the family today, Sept. 11, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to Wallkill Valley Rotary Club, Scholarship Fund, 137 Pond School Road, Sussex, NJ 07461.
