At least 18 people were killed Sunday evening, Aug. 13, 2017, at a Turkish restaurant in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, in what officials called a terrorist attack in western Africa, according to multiple news sources including CNN.

The attack happened at the upmarket restaurant Aziz Istanbul on Ouagadougou's busy Kwame Nkrumah Avenue.

In all, eight foreigners were among the victims, according to Burkina Faso Foreign Minister Alpha Barry: two Kuwaitis and one each from Canada, France, Lebanon, Nigeria, Senegal, and Turkey.

In tweets, however, Canadian media outlets reported that two Canadian citizens were among the dead. The media outlets attributed the information to Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland.

Three other victims were listed as unidentified. Names of those identified were not released pending notification of next of kin.
