I met Charlie in 1995 thru Mo Forte of whom were best friends, they met and played football for the Golden Gophers, the last championship team. I enjoyed the stories told by Charlie, Mo and Charlies wife Georgia. He was a great family man and spoke of them all with love, you could see it in his eyes when he talked of them. He will be missed and it is hard still to have to remember him!! God bless you Mr. Sanders, we love you always....

Charlie Sanders made a great name for himself in the game of football. He set an excellent for African-American football players everywhere. Most of all, he was well spoken of by all who knew him well. Certainly such a man is very precious in God's eyes. Be comforted by the life he lived and hold firmly to the guaranteed hope. (John 6:40)

To the Sanders Family: I send my condolences and prayers in this time of bereavement. I pray for your peace during your grieving. I met Mr. Sanders only about 6 yrs ago through his daughter 'Georgie' but I knew of his football legacy as I am a football fan since a little girl, seen him on television commentating and had heard of his kindness prior to meeting him. He was always welcoming and kind when I was in his presence. The world has suffered a great loss. Georgie I love you and am here if you need anything. Angie Jones-Dozier

Charlie was always at ringside wearing his favorite sweater when Mary Jo fought. You could tell he was worried and I would always say, "I'll keep it fair". Charlie would smile and say, "That's all you can do." and we both understood each other. Your personal words and advice you once gave me helped me in a difficult decision, the time you took out of your busy schedule to come down and personally meet my brothers before a Lions game and your personal invitation to attend your NFL Hall of Fame induction are only a fraction of what you gave to so many people like myself. I thank you Charlie and I thank your family for sharing you with us. You are missed but we take joy in knowing that you are seated with him looking down on us today. God bless you!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Mary Jo and family;
I'll try this again. I grew up with Charles in Greensboro, NC. Of course I was well aquainted with Adrian and Nathaniel as well: we were and forever will be home boys. I was in my military "dress greens" when I last ran into Charles at Christmas,1968! Right across the street from Gillespie Park basketball courts we all grew up on: at King's Esso Gas Station up the street from The Sanders Family Home. We were so glad to see each other: it was a moment I'll never forget! I was home from Germany to be married, and Charles informed me that The Detroit Lions had drafted Him! Much, much excitement between us as we shared our adventures as young adults. I did not know then, that I would never see him again; however, as home boys, he was never out of my heart! I do hope to meet the family to share my story of my brother, Charles, one day soon. With much love.

Although never meeting Charlie Sanders' in person. I enjoyed watching him play for the Lions and hearing him over the air waves and watching his prodigy in Herman Moore pass the mark that he set in the Lions organization. Showing that he kept on giving of himself to the game he loved through the coaching of other talented players.
Please accept my heartfelt sadness with the passing of Mr. Sanders to all of his relatives and extended family. May the Lord bless you and keep you in this time of loss.

You will be missed so much from the Canty girls, because when our father passed your friend, Otis Canty, you were with all six of his children all the way and it did not stop there you kept in touch, treating us like your girls. You were so wonderful and we will miss you so much and we know you will be in heaven looking down on your family and us. We met Charlie through our father who also worked for the Detroit Lions and known him for a long time and he will be greatly missed. To Georgiana and all the children you are in our prayers. May the Lord comfort and keep you, Love Elizabeth Canty.

To the Sanders Family
this is one of the hardest thing I have ever had to write. Charles and I have been friend for over 60 years. A freindship that has stood the test of time and distance. He left Greensboro for Minn. and I left for New York. We still continued our friendship long distance. We spoken often when his time and mine permitted. He Butch Henry and myself had a bond that just did't break. I will forever be greatful to God to bring us together at the 2014 Dudley Class reunion as the Banquet speakers. The prep was like old time. To all his family he will be missed by many but none as much as you. I can tell you he loved all his children and spoke of you often. God will take care of you.
You know your love he takes with him.

My all time favorite tight end in football history. He was a super specimen, an amazing talent, and did all the things needed to be a TOP notch player. He carried himself well and was a GREAT ambassador for the game itself. Man, this is way too soon, but it's God's will. Rest in peace brother, you were a great man.

(Just Passing Through)
Here today, Gone Tomorrow,
If you don't accept it, it's a life of sorrow
Trying to use our God given talent,
Being brave like the knight, bold and gallant
Those who can make it feel lucky indeed,
Its God's own way of letting you succeed
Our efforts we extend in hopes to win,
Some play with their hearts, others just pretend
So give your all and nothing less,
Today we win, tomorrow we rest
You're not just a teammate but my very best friend,
Let's play together until the end
Today we'll hang together, just you and me,
For tomorrow is a day we may never see
