Juanita Overton Obituary

The wisdom that Juanita Overton possessed was more than just common sense. What she passed on to her offspring and others in her community came from years of life experience, and not all of those experiences were ones a person would want to recall. Read the news obituary.

You were always patient, you were always kind. You always let us know what was on your mind. You pointed us to the Word of God and let Him Chasten us, you were there to show us love and the ways of God in your actions. I will always remember the pride in my ten year old sons eyes when he fed his Great grandmother it show me that even a child recognize a Queen when he see one. We are better people because of your life and we will miss you, Rest In Peace.

Grandmother,  you were quite a woman, and were a role model for me of what a woman, a mother, and just a human being should be. In your sixties and up until she was physically able to, she was active in her local church, an avid reader, a devoted mother, grandmother and most important to me, the kind of grandmother who didn't bake cookies, but sat me down and talked to me. We would read together and discuss what we had read, from the time I was able to understand.  She read and studied with me from the Bible, and I memorized John 3:16 and so much more.  She always stressed not to just believe what she said but to get in the word and confirm it for myself.  She said to me often  " Angie, it's an individual journey. I can direct you, but you ultimately have to make it for yourself".  Grandma, you lived your 104 years on the planet with style and grace, adapting to change, but sticking always to your principles.  Now, as I approach the time of life you were in during my childhood, I think of you daily. You got your wings and off you have flown, He just made you an angel with wings to fly to look after all your children from up in the sky. I am walking in the shoes of you, grandmother, and I only hope I can mirror the journey half as gracefully and effectively as you did.  Never will I forget my wonderful dear grandmother.   One thing I do know is you are in a better place but forever alive in my heart.

Solid and Sealed,

Love Angie

Mom,

As far back as I can remember, you were the person in my life that I wanted to please. You have always been my idol. What a mother, a grand mother, what a lady, what a friend, and confidante! What an example you were to me... and so many more. You were my Angel that God gave to watch me and guide my life from the cradle, until the day you transitioned. You were like the angels of the Lord. Though the angels, unseen, attend the saints, bear them up in their arms, cheer the spirit when it faints, and guard the life from harms. You, Mom, were that angel I could see. You will live forever in my heart.

Mother Overton, was what we called her back in the day at Church of Atlanta, was a Great woman of God,Annointed and full of wisdom. I remember taking Bible Study lessons with her in her home and she was infact the first minister to speak into my life, and the very words that she spoke at that time are coming to pass right now. I Thank God for her and I know that she left a Great Legacy for her family.

Big Mama,

You mean everything to me. I love you and miss the times we shared singing and laughing. You are the reason I love hymns and I still sing them for you.

You were the only great-grandmother that I was able to share with and I miss those days already.

I hope I make you proud as I get older, I promise to try!

Love,
Keianna (Big Girl)

Big Mama,

I always enjoyed hearing your voice and the way you made me laugh. You were so full of humor and your voice always brightened my day.

I will always remember how in your last days, I became your brother instead of your great-grandson. You still had the ability to make me laugh.

I love you and I will forever miss you.

Your great-grandson,

Tristan

Mama,

You were the greatest Mom anyone could ever ask for. There is such a void after your living with me for 40+ years. That void can never be filled or replaced. I think of you daily and all of the seeds that you have sown in mine and others lives. The one prayer that I always prayed is that you would not have to suffer in an extended illness. God answered that prayer and for this, I am so grateful to Him for His faithfulness to my prayer.

The last few days of your life, we experienced some hard days with you, but God relieved our pain by calling you home to be with Him. Now, it's a different kind of pain, but I understand grief carries a process and it takes time.

I love you and am glad you have no more pain!

Your daughter,

Grandma,
I miss you so much but I have already put on the shoes that you left me and I am moving full speed ahead. Your wisdom, love, and compassion are the qualities that you left that I aspire to inherit and share with others. As you sing in heaven's choir and rest with your Lord, know that the legacy you left behind rings loudly and continues to bless others.

Your baby girl,
Jawana

From our talks, and the words of wisdom you instilled into my life from a little girl... Your sense of humor, and the times where you would just want me to sit with you and read the Bible or sing to you.... Every little moment that we shared I will cherish forever. Your mind was still as sharp as ever!
Thank you for being such a blessing in my life and being the greatest role model.
Words cannot express how much pain and joy the loss of one of God's greatest souls means to me. You're my Guardian Angel now. You can rest and rejoice in peace and at Home.
I love you and miss you so much.
Your Great-Granddaughter,
Bahja

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

My sister's and I were in Mrs Overton's home often visiting with she and her family.

Mrs Overton always directed us in the right direction to go in, that is, she always pointed us in the direction of walking with God and keeping our hands in His hands knowing our mother would have it no other way. We made it and all seven children are anchored in the Lord.

Our mother, Mrs Mary Sims and her children, loved Mrs Overton and her family, Mrs Overton loved our mother and now they can meet again.

Please know that the Sims family of Rockmart, Georgia is and will be praying for the family.

We love you,
The Sims Family

Grandmama, you will be missed but your family has already continued to carry the legacy that you layed before them.

I will never forget her smile and her sense Of humor...and boy did she have one. Just having the opportunity to be in her presence was always so amazing. My heart remains at peace knowing she is in a better place. Even at 104 years of age it was evident that at the center of her heart was definitely the word of God and her love for him. YES, at the age of 104 she was in her right mind enough to still sing a song of worship before the Lord and quote a scripture...awesome!

You will be missed but not forgotten...I love you Mother Overton!

Love, Missy
