Dinah Shore's Duets

2/24/2012

Dinah Shore made a marvelous career for herself, first as a popular recording artist during the big band era, and later as the TV hostess of several variety and talk shows. Her winning charm made it easy for her to interact with her guests and costars.

That charm also made Shore a natural at singing upbeat and easy-going duets with other popular singers of her day. She collaborated with many of the greats – watch Frank Sinatra make her laugh as they sing their way through a medley of standards:

She had even more fun singing a spirited back-and-forth version of "Mack the Knife" with Pearl Bailey. We challenge you not to smile as you watch the two riff and joke.

When Shore dueted with Bobby Darin, their slightly awkward dancing just added to their charm.

Dinah Shore died 18 years ago today, but her sound is still so fresh and fun that it seems like a lot less time has passed. Her duets remain true classics.
