Jeanne Carmen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2007.
IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - Jeanne Carmen, the "little country girl" who became a 1950s pinup and actress and hobnobbed with Frank Sinatra and other stars, has died. She was 77.

Carmen died of lymphoma Thursday at her Orange County home, said her son, Brandon James.

Born on Aug. 4, 1930, in Paragould, Ark., Carmen picked cotton with her family before running away at 13.

"I was just a little country girl that wanted to be a movie star," she told the Orange County Register in 1996.

Carmen was still a teenager when she came to New York and, despite having no show business experience, immediately became a dancer in a Broadway show called "Burlesque," with comic Burt Lahr.

She later went into modeling, gaining a measure of success with a series of cheesecake shots in men's magazines. One gig turned into a new career as a trick golfer. On tour with golfer Jack Redmond, she would perform stunts such as hitting a ball out of a man's mouth.

Carmen claimed that she later hustled golfers with Las Vegas mobster Johnny Roselli.

She came to Hollywood while still in her 20s, where she appeared in low-budget movies with such titles as "Guns Don't Argue" and "The Monster of Piedras Blancas."

Carmen also claimed to have had affairs with Sinatra and other celebrities.

She moved to Orange County in 1978.

In addition to her son, Carmen is survived by daughters Melinda Belli and Kellee Jade Campo, and three grandchildren.

Brandon, I grew up in Jonesboro, 22 miles from Paragould. I love doing research on famous people from Arkansas. Who were your grandparents and what was your mother's birth name?

And no resident will say: “I am sick…”Isa 33:24. We can expect this to be a reality in the near future; perhaps you or I may see those missing from our lives due to sickness that leads to death. Prayers go out to the surviving family and friends.

Brandon, if you see this, please get in touch. You and I use to be friends and talk quite a bit. My name is Lisa Malone Herbert on facebook. Love ya...xoxo

I had the pleasure of meeting Jeanne in the late 80's. She was a passionate, beautiful lady who could not wait to introduce me to her kids. We would talk on the phone or meet for lunch. Being both from Arkansas, we understood each other...why we had made our life choices and such. We talked of the glamour of old Hollywood. Though I was in the presence of Hollywood royalty, we were just 2 crazy blondes enjoying our lives. I only found out today that this world is without her beautiful soul. I moved away from So Cal in 1992. God bless you, Jeanne. We will see each other again. To the kids, may you find peace in knowing how much she adored you and loved you. We all mourn with you. Love Always,
Lisa Basil (Warren)

May the God of comfort and tender mercies continue to comfort your family and friends, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."" Please accept my sincere condolences during this time of your loss.

I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting and developing an endearing relationship with both Brandon and Jeanne in the mid 90's. I was involved in music and performing some memorable stuff. Jeanne's openness to me in my quest at the time was generous and forthcoming. She was am encouragement to me and so was Brandon. I am late with this note because I just now found the place to express it.

For Jeanne...the "little country girl" who became a 1950s pinup and actress and hobnobbed with Frank Sinatra and other stars.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I used to attend the Hollywood Collector's Show in North Hollywood regularly as a dealer and then had to stop going due to health reasons several years ago. Two of the people I missed seeing the most was the lovely, charming Jeanne and her son Brandon. I had many wonderful chats with both of them and Jeanne was always one of the nicest, kindest and warmest celebrities at the show. She was such a sweet woman and will be greatly missed. My sympathies go out to Brandon and Jeanne's daughters. I will remember her always.
