Elwyn Eacker Obituary
A native of Fort Plain, N.Y., Jake had been a Hampton resident since 1945. He served his country with 'Duty, Honor and Respect' in the U.S. Army during WW II and the Korean War and retired from the Virginia National Army Guard in 1983, combined with more than 22 years of dedicated military service. He was the proud recipient of the WW II Victory Medal. After his military retirement he was employed at Ft. Monroe as a mechanic engineer and retired after many years of civil service.
Jake was a long time member of Central Baptist Church where he had served as a past usher. He was an avid NASCAR fan and followed Mark Martin when he drove the # 6 Ford race car.
Jake leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 61 years, Gertrude E. Eacker; daughters, Darlene VanderVeer and husband, Dave, of Newport News and Deborah Miller and her husband, Ted, of Providence Forge; son, Jesse W. Kochersperger and his wife, Sandy, of Hampton; sisters, Roseann Edwards and Carol Dillenbeck; brothers, Dorr Eacker, George Eacker, Richard Eacker, Adelbert Eacker Jr. and Clifford Eacker; grandchildren, Wende Hawk and her husband, Sheaffer, Amy McClure and her husband, James, Ray and Kyle Crowder, David Kochersperger and his wife, Cindy, and Christopher Kochersperger; and great-grandchildren, Krystal, Dylan, Dakota, Seth, Will, Corbin, Angel, Jacob and Ashley.
A service to celebrate Jake's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Thornton Hall and the Rev. Orville Eacker officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Va.

I am so sorry to hear that Jake passed away. I will never forget the time he spent with us when we were kids (Gertrude also). I will always remember buying Jessie's old Ford convertible and having the brakes go out on me on the way to school and having to have lots of guys jump on the sides of the car to stop it. My deep felt sympathy to all the family.

Mrs Eackers & family,we are so saddened that Mr.Eackers has passed.I will always remember him for the many times he helped me keep my old cars running and the wonderful way he treated us as kids.Jake was one of the reasons we kids were so fortunate to grow up in that neighborhood.God Bless,Bob & Susan Guillotte.

I would like to pass along my and Pat's prayers and thoughts at this time. Bro. Jake was a blessing to me so many times. I remember how many times he helped to "patch" my old cars together. What a blessing it was. I always appreciated his kind words and encouraging words to me all those years at Central. I pray the Lord will give you grace for the days ahead.
