Lucille Weaver Obituary

Weaver, Lucille Ruth (Switzer) Passed peacefully from this life on January 4, 2011, in Tucson, AZ. Born in 1924 in Kenosha, WI; she was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mabel Switzer; brother, Raymond Switzer and sister-in-law, Lorraine (Becker) Switzer. Lu is survived by her loving husband, David; son, Douglas (Jane) Weaver of Green, OH; daughter, Judith (Tim) Sullivan; and granddaughters, Katherine and Colleen Sullivan of Gilbert, AZ; as well as brother-in-law, Gordon Weaver of Cedarburg, WI. Lu graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha. She attended the University of Wisconsin (Madison) receiving a BA in Psychology, and was later conferred an MA degree in the same field from UW Milwaukee. After marrying David in 1952, they lived in the Milwaukee area, where they joined a bridge club with 10 other couples who have remained close friends ever since. Dave and Lu eventually settled in South Milwaukee where they raised their family. Lu worked for nine years as a School Psychologist in the suburban Milwaukee school districts of Cudahy, St. Francis and West Allis. After retirement she volunteered for 5 years as a docent at the Pabst Mansion in Milwaukee. While she loved her friends in Wisconsin, she had enough of the winters there, and upon Dave's retirement they moved out to the SaddleBrooke community in Tucson in 1990. Lu and Dave were fortunate to share a long and healthy retirement together. They made many trips within the United States, Canada and Europe. Lu especially enjoyed ocean cruises, line dancing and tracing her family's genealogy. She was a loving spouse and parent, and extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. According to Lu's wishes, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Casa De Los Ninos (www.casadelosninos.org). I was in college at Madison at the same time as Lou. However we did not know each other then. Friendship with the Weavers in SaddleBrooke has been special and I will continue to support and be Dave's friend.
