Ray Bertolozzi Obituary

Ray Bertolozzi March 20,1969 December 31, 2011 South San Francisco Our brother left this journey to join our parents, Renato and Maria Bertolozzi. He leaves behind his siblings, Grace Bertolozzi-Pierce (Steve) and Victor Bertolozzi; his neice and nephews: Rachel, Daniel Gabriel and Lucas, as well as his beloved Zia's, Zio's and cousins both here and in Italy. Aunt Ivana Bertolini-Busch held a special place in his heart. A butcher, firefighter and a paramedic by trade he was physically strong; yet also a very sweet and generous man who loved animals and nature. He was a member of SSF Elks Lodge #2091 and an avid surfer and fisherman who loved the sea. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, boats, cigars and good food. He loved foraging for porcini's and tossing back a cold one at Molloy's. He was multilingual and a world traveler. We will remember him surfing, riding like a demon on Big Wheels, bikes and motorcycles. We will remember him as beautiful, handsome and kind. He leaves behind some great and loyal friends who will carry him in their hearts forever. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass for Ray on Friday, January 20, 10am at All Souls Catholic Church, 315 Walnut Ave., South San Francisco.

It is with a heavy heart that I send my condolences to you Victor, and your family. I received the news of Rays passing and can only say, that as his co-worker and friend, I am truly saddened....it was always enlightening and yet, amusing to share a "word" or two with Ray in the 'break room'. His colorful stories and smile will be missed. I am so sorry for your loss and express my deepest sympathy.

I went to high school with Ray at El Camino High...he was a character when you could get him to talk :) I shared some laughs with him over lunch, sorry I never got the chance to reconnect with him.

He will be remembered fondly by quite a few people

To my Life Long Friend,

My mother had a saying, "You never miss the water until the well runs dry." I heard that saying many times. Even believed I completely understood it. That is, until I started to lose the people close to me, can I say I 'felt' it's meaning. Ray, you belong to a very short list, written not with words but by every meaningful experience and emotion we ever shared. As this worldly list gets shorter, the place I keep it will never forget or diminish.
What creates the bond of a life long friend, from other relationships? Those precious few that stand the test of time? I know for us, it started before I can even remember. Forged in a steady flame as we grew up. Our pasts intertwined, making the Bertolozzi's as close to me, as any family I have.
Before we could walk, we crawled together, before we could talk, we laughed together, when we could talk, we shared our hopes and dreams together, when our parents needed a brake, Grace watched us together. When we got older we learned together, chased and competed for girls together, shared our conquests and defeats together. Before we could drive we borrowed our parents car and drove together, before we could drink we drank together. We laugh, cried, fought and forgave together. Even when life pulled us apart we called and remembered it all together, how thank full I am for our time together, for the trust and the secrets we shared together. I wish we had more time and grew old together to share our stories to our families and children together.
Now that your gone, you'll stay on this small list forever.
So be patient my friend, you just had to beat me to this mark,
The end of all trips we take alone in the dark.
Even though you are gone, you stay close to me on this list,
beating in my chest, is the memories of everyone missed.
In my heart all the secrets we shared will remain,
held in a sacred trust, until united again.

Rest in Peace,

John Hughes A.K.A. Johnny Clam
