Frederick Young Obituary

Retired judge, former GOP chairman dies Dayton Daily News

DAYTON | Frederick N. Young, a retired judge of the 2nd District Court of Appeals and former chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party, died Wednesday night, according to Administrative Judge Jeffrey Froelich of the county common pleas court.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed, Froelich said.

Mr. Young, who was 74, retired from the Dayton-based appellate court last Jan. 31, completing two six-year terms on the court that reviews legal decisions in Montgomery, Greene, Miami, Clark, Darke and Champaign counties.

Mr. Young, a graduate of Harvard Law School who was president of the Dayton law firm Young and Alexander, had worked for the National Panel of Arbitrators, resolving private commercial disputes.

He was a state representative from 1968 through 1976.

The following year, he was named chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party, a post he held until the end of 1982.

He also served a nine-year term on the Wright State University Board of Trustees and was on the board of the Human Race Theater.

To All of Fred's Family & Friends- Fred was a wonderful and happy man. I will never forget my childhood memories of his smiling face and loving personality. Lots of childhood memories come to mind. Pike Lake, counting his campaign signs on trips in our car around town and many more. Enjoy all the memories he has given you. They will come every day and he will stay alive within your hearts. He will always live inside all of you and your lives will continue to be lived through his guidance. We are fortunate to have shared time with Fred.

When I traveled to Dayton to visit relatives, I heard this news.

I knew him only as Mr. Young, since when I knew him I was only a teenager. Still, Mr. Young was pleasant to me and took the time to chat when we would meet, serving as a wonderful example of how we as people should treat each other.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours at this difficult time.

I clerked for Judge Young in 1996-1997. He was a kind boss, a patient mentor, and a fine judge. He was also a wonderful man, who was truly respected and admired by others. He will be greatly missed.
