George Osmond Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 6, 2007.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - George Osmond, father of Donny and Marie Osmond and patriarch to the family's singing group, The Osmond Brothers, died Tuesday. He was 90.

Family spokesman Kevin Sasaki said Osmond died at his home in Provo, Utah. Because he had not been ill, he likely died from natural causes incident to his age, Sasaki said.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Marie Osmond, a contestant on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" who fainted following a live performance two weeks ago, would appear on Tuesday night's results segment.

Osmond's manager, Karl Engemann, and ABC publicist Aime Wolfe didn't immediately return telephone and e-mail messages asking for comment.

The death was first reported on the "Entertainment Tonight" Web site and confirmed by The Associated Press through a spokeswoman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which Osmond was a member.

Marie Osmond performed Monday night on "Dancing With the Stars," with her brother Donny Osmond in attendance. She's not the only ''Dancing'' contestant to have lost a parent this season: Jane Seymour missed a show last month after the death of her mother, Mieke Frankenberg.

GeorgeOsmond married his wife, Olive, on Dec. 1, 1944. She died in 2004. The couple were the parents of nine children, many of whom became singing stars. Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay Osmond first became famous as The Osmond Brothers, a barbershop quartet singing at Disneyland and on "The Andy Williams Show."

Donny Osmond joined the group at age 6 and later hosted "The Donny and Marie Show" with his sister. The youngest son, Jimmy Osmond, is also a performer.

George Osmond also had 55 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

A World War II veteran, Osmond also served missions for the Mormon church in Hawaii and the United Kingdom. In his professional life, he worked in real estate, insurance sales and was once the postmaster for the city of Ogden. He gave up his work to manage the singing careers of his children.

Together, Osmond and his wife formed the Osmond Foundation, which later became the Children's Miracle Network, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for children's hospitals.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being you and for the most incredible group of talented children. I grew up watching them, the famous Osmonds perform and loved their songs. Like so many teen girls, I had a crush on Donny back in the early 70’s. I’m now 64 and still love and respect them all. Marie grew up so beautifully stunning. Thank you and Mrs. Osmond for bringing them to the world. My heart goes out to them. Rest In Peace Mr & Mrs. George Osmond. Cynthia Lynn Thompson. Lakewood New Jersey

For George...You children Donnie
and Marie...and all your grandchildren
came from who you were. They like
yourself are all decent human beings.
You have done yourself proud.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I left an audio message earlier, just wanted to send my condolences, but don't forget all that he AND your mother taught you, since even before you were on the Andy Williams show you learned so much about showmanship, singing, talent, all the hours they had you practice, it paid off when you reached super stardom. Their tireless work made the whole differance in all your lives, cherish that, and remember, however your children and their children turn out, it will pay off and make the differance in all their lives because of what they learned from you, AND what you learned from your parents. God bless, your heratege will live on.

As many of the Osmonds know, I lost my dear Mother and Best Friend this year, too. She and Father were born only 3 days apart and passed thru the veil to their loved ones only 47 days apart. The loss is great and the void is huge. But, the knowledge that we will all be reunited again gives peace in all the turmoil. May you all feel your Father, and your Mother, near you for the rest of your lives. They were incredible people who touched MANY generations. My Mother and I had the pleasure of meeting them both in Branson several times.

God Bless all of you always,

To the Osmond Family from the George Russell Family."Families are forever". What a wonderful truth this is. I got to meet George Osmond while I was touring your studio in Utah in 1981 and "bumped" into him literaly by accident. He turned around and had such a wonderful warm smile that he appologized to me for bumping into me even though it was the other way around. He will be missed, but he will be welcoming you on the other side with your mother when it is time.
God bless your family.

Dear Osmond Family,

I would like to take this time to say that I am so very sorry for your loss. I have lost both of my parents also and I am here to tell you that it does not get easier, we just learn to come to terms with it and find a place of peace where we can be until we are together again in the Celestial Kingdom. My family and I joined the LDS church about a year ago and we know it was the best decision of our lives. Your parents are sealed together for ever I am sure, and I know that they are now together and dancing, dancing, dancing. Can't you hear their laughter from being together again? They are not gone forever. They are only away for awhile. Someday you will all join them and what a celebration that will be. Your parents raised you to be strong and to stand up for what is right and for what you believe in. You are a testament to your parents and to Heavenly Father. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your family. My mother always had a saying hanging in our home. It said "The Will of God will never lead you where the Grace of God cannot keep you." Know that Heavenly Father knows what you are going through and He is there with you in Holy Spirit and He will never leave you. You will make it thorough this. You are NOT alone. May Heavenly Father Bless You and your entire family always with all that is good and pure. Contact me if you wish.

A loss is a sadden event. Where everyone is either in shock, in tears or laughing about the fond memories of the ones who died that they truly loved. I may still have my parents. I have lost tons of great friends of all ages.
I've have lost a few cousins, a few great aunts, a few great uncles,
both grandfathers died & I only knew one of my great grandmothers
& she died when I was a child. There are so many people who thought
of me as a family member & treated me like a family member with
love, hugs, kisses & gifts. But, the sadden thing in life is
hearing that others who died never, shared a fond memory with you. You
search high & low for all the right answers wondering. Why them?
Why take the ones we know, love, respect, forgive & care about
suddenly fade away? Why do the good ones who don't harm a single person
leave the world so soon. I may of never met George Virl Osmond. I may
of not met any of the Osmond family members. But, I feel deep down inside my heart we have know one an other or shared some form of pain
together. We both loss those we knew from our very first day; When we
open up our eyes from day one. It's not so easy to express how we truly
feel. All we want is for everything to move backwards in life with out
moving forward. We don't want to hear that a love one or a very close
friend who you love too has died or moved on into a better place. But,
do we have an answer from God on why, people leave us. Why is it that
most people die from an illness, a gun shot , a car accident or a drug
overdose? Some even die because they are too old or too young to move
on. Like children who are born with an illness or are born two months
early. It's so sad to realize that one morning , one afternoon or an
evening you are talking with them, laughing with them, eating with
them, kissing them, singing with them or hugging them. Then you have to write down your thoughts of them at a funeral. But, then you get so sad you rather skip your thoughts & pray in peace. Life is always
different & you will never know which path the Lord is keeping you
on. Rather it's the path of life on earth or the path to the golden
gates of Heaven. You never know what may occur. It's best to love
everyone. It's best to forgive everyone. It's best to make peace with everyone. It's best to know everyone famous or not.
No need to hide away & be afraid that they may not like you or love
you. But, to know that they will truly understand you . If you have to attend funeral after funeral are you in the same emotional club. Saying what comes from with-in our heart & soul. So, Marie even though I never met you or your family. I feel the sadden loss & pain that
you are going through. I know that you were very close to him
especially since you & your daddy shared the same Birthday. I don't
know how Donny or anyone else may be feeling. But, knowing Donny &
the others are just as sad as you are feeling. Feeling like there is an
empty place in the house during the meals etc.. events. It's not so
easy to hold back the tears 24/7. when you are still in mourning. It's
not so easy to over come everything & to change your life around
like if they weren't here. For even though their body is no longer
here, all we have are fond memories in home movies & inside our
photo albums & maybe even a slide show. Their heart & soul is
never gone. You can talk to them even if they don't talk back. They can
hear you for their spirit grows with inside of you for life. They
become your Angel a gift from God. They protect you night & day.
So, know that your dad & your mom may of left the world. But, they
have never left their family, their friends & their loyal fans. I
know that I can't bring you dad back & your mom who left you almost
four years Marie. But, sweetie know that all of your love ones are
there. Rather if it is a family member, a close friend, a loyal fan or
a future friend/family member. Who will protect you & guide you daily
with their love & their prayers. Rather if you ever hear from them
or meet them face to face. Your life will become better one day at a
time. So, once again I'm deeply sorry for your loss. I'm sure that your
dad was a great man. I'm sorry that I never had the chance to meet him.
Perhaps in the near future I can meet you & the rest of the
Osmonds. Thanks for being who you are.
God bless you & Peace be with you.
George Virl Osmond rest in peace & may you know that even though we
have never met. I do love you too & I wish that you are up in
Heaven with the Good Lord. You earn a token in the new place not on
earth but, in heaven. You had a special gold token on earth which
switched to a beautiful thing even more special in Heaven. We thank you
George for who your were for 90 years & we thank you for the never
ending time you will protect us & save us while you are soaring
above in Heaven. You have earn your wings & I proud to have you
watch over me & everyone else. This is not a farewell but, a see
you later.
Your loyal friend & number 1 fan. With tons of love, hugs &
kisses.
Kate Lewis. I'm a young fan. I was born in 1978.
If you Marie or Donny need anything at all feel free to e-mail me back
when-ever. I would love to hear from you.
Marie best luck to you with dancing with the stars.

I was saddened to hear of your great loss. Your family bring back memories for me as My Mom would get us out of bed to come watch the Osmonds sing on Andy Williams Show when I was a kid. My sister and I even took our Mom to see Donnie and Marie at Valley Forge Music Center years ago. I hope you can find comfort knowing others care and are sending prayers and good wishes your way. May your parents rest in peace.

I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I still have my both of my parents around. Even though you are in show business, you are still a family who is grieving the loss of a loved one. It shows that you had much respect for your parents and loved them very much. I know that God will be with you at this time, just call on Him and He will always answer.

Donny, Marie and the whole entire Osmond Family, I was so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. I am 50 years old and grew up watching and listening to you all sing and dance.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers, I lost my father in 2000, my mother in 2004 and 5 months later my 19 year old son. I know what you are going thru and dealing with now. May the peace of God surround you and comfort you now and in the days to come. He can comfort when no one else can. May God bless each of you with peace.

Dear Osmond family, you have my deepest sympathy for your loss. I never had the pleasure to meet your dad, but growing up I had learned alot about your family. You have a great family, one that you really don't see everyday. My heart and prayers go out to you, in this time of pain, rememberance, and sorrow. When I lost my grandfather, I remember my grandmother told me "to remember him with laughter not tears." Because he loved to hear me laugh, we were VERY close. I still miss him, even after 15 years. I will pray for you, and will ask my family to do the same.

Dear Osmonds...I was extremely proud of the way you conducted yourselves during this past week. Your Mom and Dad are so very proud of you. It's not easy loosing a parent and then another one, to become an orphan of sorts. My Mom passed away on April 24, 2007 at Beehive Homes in Orem, and I only got to see her a few times that year she was there. But the peace I feel from her, now, is wonderful. May the sad days ahead not be so sad as you remenice of the beautiful memories you had with your Mom and Dad.

It hurts....I know. May God comfort you during this time of great sadness. I have loved the Osmond family since I was a child. I have such great memories of the great music and laughter it brought me! Some of my most vivid memories of the Osmonds is watching specials and getting to see the GREAT Matriarch and Patriarch of the Osmond family. I enjoyed the one special where the Patriarch Osmond had to use a megaphone at the dinner table for someone to pass a dish! It is so sad to lose someone in death...but rejoice! We will see our loved ones again....in Jesus' time. God bless you all.
