Kevin Dubrow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 26, 2007.
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Kevin Dubrow, lead singer for the 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot that scored a hit with "Cum on Feel the Noize," was found dead in a Las Vegas home. He was 52.

The cause was not immediately known.

A neighbor summoned police and paramedics Sunday to the house where he was pronounced dead, police and coroner's officials said.

There was no forced entry, and no suspicious circumstances were reported, police Officer Jose Montoya said Monday.

Quiet Riot was perhaps best known for its 1983 cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize." The song, featuring Dubrow's powerful, gravelly voice, appeared on the band's album "Metal Health" - which was the first by a metal band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard chart.

DuBrow recorded his first solo album in 2004, "In for the Kill," and the band's last studio CD, "Rehab," came out in October 2006.

"I can't even find words to say," Quiet Riot drummer Frank Banali wrote on his Web site. "Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow."

Determination of the cause of death was pending an autopsy and toxicology results, Clark County coroner's spokeswoman Samantha Charles said.

The song 'ThunderBird' btw is BEAUTIFUL! Trying to learn it right now. Thank you for giving us such wonderful music...

it is funny many years ago I was a hardened metal head and this had not changed, but our lifes have. Driving my mercedes SUV and sometimes firgetting what is important I heard Kevin on satelite radiio. It brought back memories and put many things in perspective. It all seemed simplier then but maybe not for them.

Being 17 when QR broke all Metal barriers, the realization that Kevin is gone and QR will no longer be what it was is a tough pill to swallow. I saw QR in it's original lineup in 2003 at Double D's in NJ and man, did they sound fantastic! What a treat that was.

Kevin, you were an amazing man, amazing performer, but most of all you were an amazing mentor to many. Quiet Riot came to Dalhart last july, and you rocked our world! Having dinner with you and the band made my summer and left an impression on me. Meeting several musicians and performers I was often disappointed in the meeting, in them being something different, than I had pictured. However, meeting you was amazing. You were kind, polite, and a rockstar through and through. You and the fellow members were a true class act and I will always remember the impression you left on me. Thanks Kevin and God Bless.

I didn't care for heavy metal until I heard Kevin sing it. He knew how to belt out those tunes. And he was truly a nice person. What you saw is what you got. There wasn't a bad bone in his body. Even though you will be missed here on earth, I know you are with your friend Randy Rhoads in Heaven. Him Playing...you singing. What joy! Gob Bless you forever.

I never knew Kevin personally, almost got a chance to meet him in Vegas last year but it fell through, but I do know how kind and generous he was to my boyfriend Des. He had a very big heart. He was an amazing person as well as a real rock star.

Kevin's passing has hit me so hard. I never shared words with the man, but his influence in my musical life has been huge. Almost 25 years ago, Kevin and his bandmates started me along my metal journey. To Kevin's family and friends, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Like many of the people who have written here, I started listening to QR as a teenager, buying Metal Health with money earned after school. It has remained one of my favorite cd's and my husband and I finally had the pleasure of seeing QR in Myrtle Beach in 2005. The show was wonderful, it made us 15 again. Kevin was very nice, he came out after the show to sign autographs and speak with his fans. He seemed very happy to be there, not at all like it was part of the job. He impressed me as being very sweet and kind and this was with only after a moment. His fans will all miss him, I wish that I could have caught one more show.
