Laraine Day Obituary
Day died of natural causes Saturday at her daughter's home in Utah, where she moved following the death of her husband of 47 years, producer Michel M. Grilikhes, earlier this year, said publicist Dale Olson.
Day starred opposite Joel McRea in 1940's "Foreign Correspondent" and also appeared in such films as "Mr. Lucky," "I Take This Woman," "The Story of Dr. Wassell," "My Dear Secretary" and "The High and the Mighty." She appeared in her last movie, "The Third Voice" in l960, the year she married Grilikhes.
During a break in her film career, Day co-starred on a national theater tour with Gregory Peck in "Angel Street," and also took the stage in "Lost Horizon," 'The Women" and "Time of the Cuckoo."
In 1951, Day became one of U.S. television's first female talk show hosts in "The Laraine Day Show."
Day penned the memoir "Day With Giants" in 1951 about life with baseball manager Leo Durocher, to whom she was married from 1947 to 1960, a period in which she was sometimes called "The First Lady of Baseball."
Day's first husband was singer Ray Hendricks.
Day made her film debut in a bit part in "Stella Dallas" in 1937. She changed her birth name and first won fame as Nurse Mary Lamont in the film series "Dr. Kildare," starring Lew Ayres.
Day is survived by her twin brother, three daughters, a son and numerous grandchildren.

My family and I have watched her movies for years. She was my mother `Florence Glennora Davis's' first cousin. My mother was born in 1913 in Vernal, Utah. We always hoped to have a chance to meet her and her family. Our hearts and prayers are with her family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. My mother just loved Laraine Day, she was her favorite actress. She named me after her, but spelled it differently. I remember many stories she would tell me about Laraine and all the movies she was in. I will always remember her.

To the family and firends of Laraine Day:
I was born on December 23, 1952 in West Hartford, Ct. My mother, Esther, named me after Laraine Day. However,my name is spelled Loraine. I always wondered why my name was spelled with only one "r", since people were always spelling Loraine with two "r"s.
One day when I was in my 40's, I saw a listing for a movie in TV Guide of a movie with the actress I was named after. Imagine my surprise and consternation when I saw her name spelled with an "a" instead of an "o". I had quite a chuckle when I realized that my mother had spelled the name wrong! I finally understood why my name was Loraine with one "r"!
My condolences on the loss of a beautiful woman who I have the good fortune to have been "almost" named after!( By the way, I never mentioned my discovery to my mom!)

I am deeply saddened at the passing of Laraine Day. As a young boy of thirteen in 1951 I met her and Leo Durocher with my parents in a restaurant in New York. I was star struck. I had a crush on her. She was so gracious and attentive when I asked her for her autograph.I send my deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
