SARSFIELD Luke A. Jr., age 85, of Totowa at rest in Wayne on January 15, 2011. Beloved husband of the former Nancy Ann Chiavacci of Totowa. Loving father of Luke A. Sarsfield III and his wife Jodi of New York, NY. Dear grandfather of Luke A. Sarsfield IV and Victoria L. Sarsfield. Dear uncle of Robert Sarsfield of Harrisburg, PA. Born in Luzerne, PA, he lived in Luzerne before moving to Totowa forty years ago. He was Superintendent of Schools for the Rutherford Board of Education, Rutherford for twenty-seven years before retiring in 2000. Mr. Sarsfield was a parishioner of St. James R.C. Church, Totowa and was a former usher there. He was the Chairman of the Board of the Bergen County Teen Arts. He was a member of the N.J.E.A., the N.E.A., the N.J.S.A. and the B.C.S.A. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Phillippine Liberation Medal. Mr. Sarsfield was also a member of the American Legion Post #553, Luzerne, PA, the V.F.W. of Kingston, PA and the Rotary Club of Rutherford. He was also an American History buff. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Festa Memorial Funeral Home, 111 Union Blvd., Totowa, on Thursday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at St. James R.C.
