Rob Grill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 12, 2011.
EUSTIS, Fla. (AP) - Rob Grill, the lead singer of 1960s rock band The Grass Roots, has died near Orlando, an official with the medical examiner's office said Tuesday. He was 67.

Grill sang on such hits as "Midnight Confessions," ''Temptation Eyes," and "Let's Live for Today." He died Monday at a hospice facility in Lake County, Fla., a suburb of Orlando, said Michael Hensley, director of the medical examiner's office.

A woman who answered the phone at Cornerstone Hospice confirmed Grill was a patient but wouldn't release further information, citing privacy concerns.

The Grass Roots were a Los Angeles-based band with roots in San Francisco's music scene. They formed in the mid-1960s and went through three incarnations, with band members leaving and others joining, before they recorded a series of hits. Grill joined in 1967 and the group disbanded in 1975. One of the members was Creed Bratton, who now plays the exceedingly eccentric Creed on t he TV sitcom "The Office."

Grill released a solo album, Uprooted, in 1979.

I have been a loyal fan of Rob Grill since 1969 & to date I still feel the same way about him in 2025.
I’ve had a huge crush on him since the day I laid eyes on him and it’s still going strong. He was a very sexy gorgeous guy, extremely good looking, I love his hair, his intense green eyes, his beautiful white teeth, his incredible smile and his penetrating voice. Rob is my very favorite musician and every way, such a great talent. You are so missed by all of your fans.

I babysat for Rob and his wife Darlene in the early 1970s in the Hollywood Hills. Christian, their son, was five months old when I first started babysitting him. I watched him up to about seven years later. He was a delightful baby, and a delightful boy. Rob was always so kind to me, one of the most kind and special men I have ever met. My condolences to his family on his passing

The Grass Roots was my husband and I favorite cruising songs. Midnight Confession was a perfect huggy kissy song. But every song was a number one song for us. Rob and the other members had such pure voices with no need for electronic garbage like new artist. You Rule Rob.

21 years ago, my Wife and I took our 2 year old daughter to the G.R. concert at Erie county fair NY. She began dancing in the bleachers and ran toward the stage and the race was on. When my daughter ran toward that stage the crowd parted like Moses parting the seas. I saw Rob smiling ear to ear and it moved me. My little girl danced with her blond hair flying in the wind and Rob apparently was moved as well. My family had 3 dog Night records as soon as they were released. We bought them at Neisners dept. store, in Buffalo NY and I have been a fan since. Thank you for the music, Rob. I hope Rob's family finds solace in the fact that his and 3 Dog Night's music has moved generations.

A great singer, still remember when they played on the rooftop at what was then called "Chicagofest" back in the late ,70's Rob kept pointing to the sky in back of us while singing "Glory Bound" we the audience turned around as there were fireworks going off and Rob was trying to tell us! Sang the same song a couple of more times. I wore out my copy of "More Golden Grass" replaced it. A great singer silenced long before we were ready. Thank goodness for utube, can relive all those memories, plus. And his dear wife, Nancy, thank you for allowing us to relive the legacy of your dear husband, my condolences to you. God Bless you and if course your dear Rob... Like the song, if there's a rock and roll heaven, they've got one hell of a band!!!

I was born in 1961, so in the late 60's when I first heard the Grass Roots, I was crazy about the group. I grew up with the Grass Roots having older sibling, it wasn't until now (age56) that I reconnected with the band and all the songs they did from the beginning. I instantly fell in love with Rob, with his great looks and fabulous soft and caring voice just blew me away. To be honest I'm obsessed with him even tho he not here in body form. I cried when I read his obit, and sometimes when I hear certain songs. My favorite is Temptation Eyes and Totally Love Love Love Heaven Knows. Rob sings with such love and passion you can see it in his eyes and hear it from his heart. The only other musician I'm obsessed with is Eric Carr from kiss. He has passed also. I can't explain the obsession I have with Rob, but it's an amazing feeling and listening to his voice and watching the videos of the Grass Roots warms my heart and makes me think of the simpler time in life back in the 60's and 70's. I'm so sorry that he has passed but he leaves a great legacy behind and that is my Love for him and his music. R.I.P. Rob, You and your music are Forever In my Heart You are sincerely Missed.
