Barbara Billingsley Obituary
Spokeswoman Judy Twersky says Billingsley died early Saturday at her home in Santa Monica. She had suffered from a rheumatoid disease.
She acted in a number of roles in movies from the mid-1940s to the mid-1950s, but it wasn't until "Leave it to Beaver" that she became a star.
When the show debuted in 1957, Jerry Mathers, who played Beaver, was 9, and Tony Dow, who portrayed Wally, was 12. Billingsley's character, the perfect stay-at-home 1950s mom, was always there to gently but firmly nurture both through the ups and downs of childhood.

Barbara was one of, if not the best, actresses on tv. She was remarkable in her role as Mother Cleaver. She was caring, yet firm. She always watched intently as big Ward lectured the 2 unruly boys, and was so proud of him after, because he always said the correct choice of wording. What would she have done without Ward? Anyway, BARBARA WAS THE BEST!!!!!!

I've known Ms. Billingsley since i was a child in the 1970's all the way through today about 1/2 hour ago. Sad she is gone, but what a great legacy to have left. Everybody's mom from the 50's until today and many years to come

She is missed. I was born in 1960, and have watched Leave it to Beaver re-runs my entire life, and still do with my children and husband. We love them and only wish we still lived in that more simple, predictable and safer time. I hope they will be around for generations!!!

From the very beginning of Leave It To Beaver, I grew-up watching it in my childhood days. Barbara Billingsley was such a "joy to watch as the two boys on screen mom. I'm "sure her lovely character as a mom on screen was just as lovely being a mom in real life. She will be missed by many fans. My heart felt condolences go out to her family and friends. I was one of her biggest fans, including her beautiful family. Now it can be said, her son, Glenn, the real "Beaver," Bob Hirschmann @Universal,and I were the high school harrys of Cheviot Hills, neighbors of 20th Century Fox, in the era of Greek-American pres. Her funniest, in my opinion, was her recipes for the cheap meat, spam, published in LA Times, when her sons Glen @ Andrew continued their father's famous steak and ale restaurants, originally named: "Golden Bull."

What a sad, sad day & loss. The crazy thing is the evening before she passed, my hub & I went to a Fall Festival and I found a little book entitled 'I KILLED JUNE CLEAVER' Modern Moms shatter the Myth of Perfect Parenting. Needless to say the title caught my eye and I showed it to my hub. I read a little of it the next night, Sunday morning on TV they announce sweet, beautiul Barbara's passing. I showed my hub the book, he says 'Yeah' and I tell him that JUNE died yesterday!! I felt so connected & guilty. My heartfelt sympathies to her family, Tony & Jerry. Being raised in the '60's, watching you boys every day, you were my 'brothers!' We sooo need to go back to 'those good 'ole days' where parents actually DISCIPLINE their kids rather than just supplying them with CELL phones!! She's with Ward now. God Bless you all and may she be Resting in Peace surrounded by the LOVE of the world!!

If you take away the heels, pearls, put her in Jeans and made her a mom of today......there isn't a role model on TV out there that can hold a candle to her. Rest in Peace, beloved mother to all. The aging process: especially with Rhumatory Arthritis is not kind. her TV family. Its funny,my Mother had her hair and clothes almost identical, too! My Mom kept the pearls off doing housework.HaHa!! The one show I watched and still remember, is Leave It Beaver. I can watch

She was,also so very kind,as those whom she met,and whether you were,a very dear friend,or someone whom she just became friends with,she always seemed to be one those,who lived by the saying:To have a friend,you have to be a friend,and she was just that to more people,than she probably knew-yes,she was the Ideal T.V. Who else could have cooked a roast, had cookies freshly made for an after-school snack, cleaned the house and disciplined two irrespressible boys, all while wearing a dress and a string of pearls. Once in a while we are priveleged to witness true greatness. Such was Barbara's work on the Leave it to Beaver television series. I was very pleased to hear the wonderful words Jerry Mathers said about Barbara Billingsly and how highly she was thought of. "Leave It to Beaver" is a tv show I have watched over and over. Barbar's character was a 50's mom, but sometimes June got back at Ward in a nice way, not the way men are put down today in tv. She was a positive influence.

Mom's were great back in that day!!She was a perfect TV mom.One that everyone would love to have as a mom.Today,mom has to work to help pay that $2000 a month house payment.Back then,everybody sat down to eat at 5:30.Today,there is no time.Life was much better back in those days,which will never return.Thanks June!!
