Dick Wilson Obituary
The man famous as TV's ''Mr. Whipple'' died of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, said his daughter Melanie Wilson, who is known for her role as a flight attendant on the ABC sitcom ''Perfect Strangers.''
Wilson made more than 500 commercials as Mr. George Whipple, a man consumed with keeping bubbly housewives from fondling toilet paper. The punch line of most spots was that Whipple himself was a closeted Charmin-squeezer.
The first commercial aired in 1964 and by the time the campaign ended in 1985 the tag line and Wilson, a former Canadian airman and vaudeville veteran, were pop culture touchstones.
He also played a drunk on several episodes of ''Bewitched,'' as appeared as various characters on ''Hogan's Heroes,'' ''The Bob Newhart Show,'' and Walt Disney productions.

I am the last of the Grayson's and never met Dick,however I knew Melanie and always watched her show,very proud to have known her,I actually knew a star!
My Grandmother, Thelma was fortunate enough to have known The Wilson's and she told me Dick was the funniest man she ever knew!
He had everyone crying with sore stomach muscles by the end of an evening!
I never forgot this because my Grandmother was not prone to levity,hat really impressed me!

I am 56 and remeber fondly all the 'DON'T SQUEEZE THE CHARMIN" commercials Mr. Whippl did. Everytime I saw them, he made me laugh and how I ever kept from 'SQUEEZING THE CHARMIN', I'll never know. He brought alot of laughter to me and I really enjoyed seeing him. He was a fatherly fiqure to everyone andf will be sadly missed.

Mr. Wilson had "special mightiness" because of his long life. Read Psalms 90:10. God promises a resurrection of those in the memorial tombs at John 5:28, 29. Do not underestimate the value of prayer. The Bible urges us: “Throw your burden upon Jehovah himself, and he himself will sustain you.” (Psalm 55:22) If talking out your feelings with a sympathetic friend can help, how much more will pouring out your heart to “the God of all comfort” help you!—2 Corinthians 1:3.
It is not that prayer simply makes us feel better. The “Hearer of prayer” promises to give holy spirit to his servants who sincerely ask for it. (Psalm 65:2; Luke 11:13) And God’s holy spirit, or active force, can equip you with “power beyond what is normal” to go from one day to the next. (2 Corinthians 4:7) Remember: God can help his faithful servants to endure any and every problem they may face.

I never knew him by name during the 60's and 70's as I would see that commercial of Mr. Whipple telling people " Please don't squeeze the Charmin, " then someone telling him, and I qoute, " Mr. Whipple. " as he would squeeze it back. When I go to the store and we buy Charmin I will always think of him. i meet dick in the summer of 1985 in sherman, texas. he was at the tv station doing a noon show. my girlfriend and i waited outside for him to come out. he really took the time to talk to us and sign his name ( and we are grown women). then he ask if he could give us a hug and kiss. that really made my day. i always enjoy seeing him on tv shows and he was surprise that i told him that i saw him on hogan hereo and bewitched. told me that makes me his true fan. i still have that paper he sign in my photo album.
