My Dad and I read Rick O'Shay every Sunday, and we loved every character, even the cat. Some years back, Stan was kind enough to help me connect with some outfitters for an elk hunt. I'll never forget Stan and his art.

Didn't realize Mr. Lynde had passed until something reminded me of his great work and I looked him up on my phone. Like so many, we enjoyed Rick O'Shay and Hipshot for so many yrs and then all of a sudden it had disappeared from the papers. I was busy with other things and didn't realize it was gone sadly. Many yrs later I was driving through Yellowstone and was caught in a snow storm in June and was so happy to get to the Montana side and stopped at the first lodging I could find. It was a B&B called Cottonwood Ranch and extremely friendly and nice. I noticed the cartoons of Rick O'Shay and finally realized this was Mr. Lynde's to my pleasant surprise. After a lot of discussion about the strip and the fact that ownership was by a syndicate which I thought was very unfair I pondered it. I believe I corresponded with him a couple of times thinking that maybe someway it could be purchased back but nothing came of it. So nice to have a cartoon started by a fellow believer and one that wasn't afraid to let it be known. RIP Stan Lynde.

I met Stan Lynde about 20 years ago in a mall in Billings, Mt. I bought a original Rick O'Shay cartoon signed by him. I am proud of it. It hangs in our home in a special place.
Stan was a Christian man, he is in a far better place. We miss him!

When I was a little girl, in the days of Gunsmoke and Roy Rogers, I wrote to Mr. Lynde because I admired the Rick O'Shay comic strip so much. He was so very kind to write back to me, and that letter remains one of my greatest treasures. I will never forget the detailed drawings of the strip, and especially the Christmas and Easter "stories" with Hipshot. I, too, continue to try & live the simple life, and treasure its memories, especially when times get tough. RIP Mr. Lynde, thank you, and condolences to your family, friends, and fans.

The sole reason for the Chicago Tribune for me was reading Rick O'Shay! I was inspired and wanted to be a comic strip artist because of Stan. I was later in the Marines in Desert Storm and wrote to him. He wrote back and sent me some great stuff. I then got a chance to visit him in his log cabin studio near Kalispell Montana. First Class gentleman! May he rest in Peace!

I loved his cartoons and their rock solid messages of morals, fair treatment of your fellow man. One cartoon I recall - the gunslinger tells Rick "Christmas is the promise and Easter is the proof." God bless you Stan and thanks!

When I was young my family moved to Billings from Salt Lake City. My Dad loved westerns and turned me on to the comic strip Rick O'Shay and the TV series Gunsmoke and Bonanza. Those were the good old days in the mid 60's to early 70's. My father really admired the works of Mr. Lynde. I also developed a great appreciation for his work. My family's condolences reach out to the Lynde family and you will all be in our prayers.

It's been years since I met Stan in Kalispell, WY. He was kind enough to sign a picture of Rick and Hipshot, making me an official "Ricky". We've missed him since, and will miss him more. He's an indelible part of Montana.

Having grown up in Montana, then moving to California, I was especially proud of the expert craftsmanship Mr. Lynde displayed in his "Rick O'Shay" strip. I went to the University of Montana with his sister in 1966 who was also a cartoonist for the school's newspaper.
My condolences to Mr.Lynde's family and his sister, and he left a mighty fine legacy that made the old West and Montana proud. Rest in peace, Stan!
