Not knowing your son Steven personally doesn't make a difference. I grieve still for the loss of your son and who he was. My hope is that he will always be remembered for what he accomplished and the love he shared while living.

Out of unspeakable horror comes hope and light. The initiatives of scholarships and policy change will assure that Steven's name when spoken, and his memory, will forever be a blessing!

I had the absolute honor of attending Kimball Union Academy with Steven. The Steven I knew was one of the kindest, funniest, outgoing, most genuine person you could meet. There weren't enough hours in a day for Steve to accomplish everything he wanted, but I can honestly say he lived life to the fullest every single day. He took advantage of everything the world had to offer, and decided he wanted a hand in changing the world we live in. In light of the recent tragedies in Paris and continuing acts of terrorism, I am increasingly more aware of the necessity of journalists, and the role they play in our daily lives. Steven paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country and his dream, and he transitioned to one of the funniest guys I ever knew, to the BRAVEST person I have ever known. Steven has woken me up to what's going on in the world around us, and I could not thank him enough. He has made an everlasting impact on my life. Steve, Art, Shirley and Lauren- you will always be in my heart and I promise to do whatever I can to help continue Steven's legacy! "Everyone has two lives"

Steven was such a sweet and gentle soul who only wanted to tell the story from the point of view of those so deeply affected by conflict. What happened to him and the others is such a tragic event and a constant reminder that it could be anyone's son, child, brother, sister who is cut down for standing up for the innocent. In Steven's case it was because he wanted to share their stories with the rest of us. So proud of you Steven and the man you became. May your memory be for a blessing.

I haven't seen Steven in person since 2009 at my Bat-Mitzvah at the wall in Israel. He was the only guest that attended, and that is very special to me. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him and his courage and inspiring hopes and dreams. In the midst of my first year in college, I aspire to stay determined for success, just like Steven. I hope to see more butterflies around. Miss you, cuz!

Our son Jim and Steven were both courageous American heroes of press freedom and brothers in captivity. They challenge us to continue their commitment, courage and compassion.

On this Yom Kippur, please be comforted by knowing that during his captivity two years ago, Steven found a way to fast and pray on Yom Kippur... telling them he felt ill so he wouldn't have to eat, and turning his angle toward Jerusalem when they were facing Mecca to pray. While he had to hide that he was Jewish, he never lost his faith. May your faith be strengthened by his devotion. Sending love and light this Kol Nidre.

To the Sotloff Family

My prayers and condolences to you. There are no words that can express the horror of what happened. Only the memory of a wonderful son that gave his life to try and bring peace to this world. I will remember him as a young boy when I met him at a home show many years ago. May
G-D grant you peace.

I am terribly sorry for the senseless killing of Mr. Steven Sotloff. He certainly lived life fully and embraced his calling by going to the Middle East and living there, learning Arabic, and the customs and rituals of the indigenous people. It takes a bravery and real purpose to do that. He also seemed committed to his faith. Being a spokesperson for those in war torn regions appeared to be his mission. He must make his parents and sister proud. I am so sorry to learn of his death as he seemed to be kind, intelligent, and passionate about journalism. When I hear "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd, I will think of him. Prayers and peace for Steven and his family. -Paula in Western Mass.

Please know that others care and send their love to you during this time of grief. Our Heavenly Father is the foremost one that is able to comfort us in times such as these that we have no words for. (Isaiah 2:4) . . .And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples.
