Teri Shields Obituary
Jill Fritzo, a spokeswoman for Brooke Shields, confirmed Tuesday that Teri Shields died last week in New York City. The New York Times reports that the elder Shields died following a long illness related to dementia.
Brooke Shields parted ways professionally with her mother in 1995, describing the move as "the hardest thing."
Teri Shields started promoting her daughter as an actress and model when she was still a baby and allowed her to be cast as a child prostitute in 1978's "Pretty Baby" when she was just 11, sparking an outcry over the decision.
Shields is survived by a sister and two granddaughters.

To Brooke Shields and family. It hard losing a mother because of the close bond that we have with them. They carried us in their womb for months protecting us in a birth shield that protected us with the support of our heavenly Father. Your mom went through something that millions of our parent suffered from. Brooke know that it's not over for your mom because she is in a deep sleep waiting for God to call her name to come out. She will answer that call and come out to be with her loved ones. (John.11:43,44) What a joyous time that will be because she will have her memory back and good health to go with it. That is a day that we are all eagerly awaiting.

Dear Brooke, I'm so sorry about your mom. My mother died five years ago, December 23 and it was the hardest thing I had ever gone through. When I followed her casket out of the church,I was crying so much and felt so much pain, I made a promise to be there for others who have a loss. I thought my heart would just break. I am so sorry about your mom. I wanted to share with you one thing I did learn from this. I had never known it before even though I had gone through losses before. I learned that love continues after death. I wish I could offer you more than that but that's what I learned. I didn't want anyone else to go through something like what I went through alone. So, please know that I am praying for you and that I totally understand what you must be feeling. I'm sending spiritual hugs over the net.
