Later As I caught him in Many movies Especially: The last time I saw Paris with Elizabeth Taylor i felt lucky to have met him. Life is so short!!!!! Posting Many years Later but I still want to tell his family I am so sorry about their loss. Mireille Brosset

Although I love all of Van Johnson's films, I suppose it's a little odd that one of my absolute favorites will always be Brigadoon. Far handsomer and sexier than Gene Kelly, yet he played the perfect, and perfectly funny, cynic. Great actor. Great dancer. Perfect body for all those uniforms. We will love and miss you always, Van.

I was just watching an old Van movie from 1947.
I thought wow, somehow, that was now 71 years ago. Hard to believe even though I am 89 and loved and still do ,movies of all kinds.
I so hoped Van was still with us I tried to find out. I guess, almost if not all of the beautiful cast of "The Romance of Rosy Ridge" are gone. Van I am sure had a good time doing his thing. Bless him and the rest of the cast wherever they are. Bob Powelson

Battleground, Brigadoon, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo ... these and more demonstrate the broad talents of an extraordinary human being. My only personal memory of Van Johnson was when I was crossing the Avenue of the Americas in New York City in the 1960's. Van was crossing the other way, I recognized him and said, "Good morning Mr. Johnson" as we passed one another.
From behind me came a surprised voice, "Thank you," as if he modestly could believe that someone recognised him.

Watched TCM all day 08/25 to see Van's wonderful movies again. Always one of my favorite actors, have DVDs of The Caine Mutiny, 30 Seconds Over Tokyo, and The Last Time I Saw Paris in which he always leaves me crying after final scenes. He was a very gifted actor, equally wonderful in comedy, musical or dramatic roles. Lucille Ball was so right! Happy Birthday kind soul.

Van Johnson was the greatest actors for his time. It's a shame he never won an Oscar. He will always be one of the golden boys of that great time in Hollywood when one had to have TRUE TALENT to be in Hollywood. One had to be able to sing, dance (all forms) and act.

My all time favorite actor, Van Johnson, motion picture star, broadway star, singer, dancer, comedian and Las Vegas entertainer, a bundle of talent. I am striving to own every motion picture he ever made, all on DVD of course. You cannot watch one of his many movies without feeling totally entertained. VAN I MISS YOU VERY VERY MUCH.
GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED
AND HE DID WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS BEST
HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND YOU AND SAID
COME AND REST
HE OPENED THE GOLDEN GATES ON THAT
HEART WARMING DAY
AND WITH HIS ARMS AROUND YOU YOU
GENTLY SLIPPED AWAY
IT BROKE OUR HEARTS TO LOSE YOU
BUT YOU DID NOT GO ALONE
FOR PART OF ME WENT WITH YOU

For Van...
You left so many great
movie moments. R.I.P.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I was a young kid in the late '60's and early '70's when I started catching Van Johnson's MGM movies on weekend afternoons. His charm, wit, ability to entertain whether comedy or drama, I was fascinated and developed a subtle crush. Years later when I saw Purple Rose of Cairo at the theater I was suprised and elated to recognize Van in the film within a film. The gentleman exuded class and charisma whether on the screen or in an interview. Hearing he passed gave me pause to reflect on what he'd meant to me growing up.

I would like to convey my deepest sorrow and regret of the loss of a great man and actor, Van Johnson. I am 58 years old, however, felt as if I grew up with him as a hero and a very warm hearted fantastically handsome man whom I wanted to grow up and marry. He made the greatest movies to me, made me feel as if I was part of them. I daydreamed about him as if I really knew him. He came across to me as the man you would want to marry, and be your best friend, someone who was always there for you going the extra mile. Especially someone who you could only see good and the very best of everything in. I've watched all his movies over and over. My two top favorites, the first being "Miracle In The Rain", and "The Last Time I saw Paris" as my second most favorite film. I can remember the many times I cried when watching these two movies, also along with others. I wish they would play more of his movies on television, especially the two favorites mentioned above. I would very much and deeply appreciate copies of these two movies. Back them I was unable to record these, however, now I can and would watch them constantly as they are part of my life. I truly loved this wonderful man and will deeply miss him. Bless his family and all the people who loved him also. Van Johnson will never be forgotten as he is always in my heart and thoughts just like millions of others. I thank the great Lord for allowing him to be with us.
Love to all of you,
