I had always heard Larry Smith call you out as he played your tunes during Jazz Forum. Never thought I would meet you. But not only did I meet you, but I had to run down to the dollar store before your New Years 2011 show at the Green Mill to grab a sewing kit. Button popped on your tux jacket. You're the only man who has tamed me into doing a domesticated task! I guess legends have that power! Thanks for a great show and an even greater memory!! Rest in Peace!!

"Unconditional Love, Unconditional Gift, Unconditional Friendship" Chicago will never be the same; He help many of us get started, by giving us a platform to perform and hone our skills. Whether it was the El'Matador, the Apartment Louge etc., It was going on. We'd get there early to hear him and the Young John Young, John Login, Captain Ship, and many other Jazz giants performing with him on the South Side of Chicago. If it was a Monday or Tuesday night, I knew already where I was going to be. Tenor Sax in hand, sitting up from and waiting to hear from the Master, to pour out a reservoir of sound and knowledge. I'm going to miss you Von, and I can't thank you enough for the many jam sessions that gave us all a start to hone our skills. Chicago via Boston. Minor Bird Davis

Mr. Freeman was one of the most down to earth individuals I have ever met. I did a show with him in 98 and I felt like I knew this man all my life. Condolences to his family, friends, and many fans. Von you are a true legend and may you continue your greatness in your journey!

"To the Freeman family. Its good that Mr. Freeman had the opportunity to live a full life. The scriptures say that our days are 7o and if by special mightiness they are 80.(Psalms 90:10). I am sure that you have so many memories of him that will bring you a smile when you think of him." Alabama

He was a phenomenal player. Very talented. May he always be remembered as such. Ecclesiastes 7:1 "A name is better than good oil and the day of death than the day of one's being born."
