Therese Soike Obituary

Therese (Teri) Marie SOIKE Therese M. Soike passed away on February 10, 2008 at Harborview Hospital, due to an unfortunate car accident. Born on December 16, 1952 in St. Paul, MN, Teri moved with her family to Seattle in 1968. She attended Blanchet High School and obtained her teaching certificate from the University of Washington. Therese leaves behind many who love her dearly, including her daughters, Jocelyn Phelps and Shelby Hampton; son-in-laws, Kyle Phelps and Kris Hampton; former husband, Clifford Soike III; sisters, Arlene Harrington and Rita Bingham; brothers, Steven Adamek and David Adamek; and numerous other family members and close friends. Therese obtained her teaching degree in Home Economics, however she first began a career in retail at Nordstrom, which lent to her impeccable style and fashion. She married Clifford Soike III in 1974 and had two daughters: Jocelyn (1977) and Shelby (1980). She worked part-time for many years which allowed her to devote the majority of her time to raising her daughters. She enjoyed volunteering in their schools, leading Camp Fire groups and always finding ways to make a beautiful home for her family. As her daughters entered high school, Teri attended SPU to update her credentials so she could teach in a vocational program. She taught in alternative high schools and developed a program for pregnant teens and teen mothers, later receiving the Washington State Vocational Teacher of the Year Award. "A pixie with a killer smile", Teri was sassy, strong willed and loved to laugh. Teri was an example of so many beautiful qualities: kindness, compassion, generosity, determination, spirited, feisty and unconditional love. Teri’s main role in life was that of fabulous mother and close friend. She enjoyed providing a nurturing home for her daughters (maybe spoiling them a bit, too). Her love for giving special gifts and treats went beyond her family to friends, coworkers and people in her community. Over the years, she developed a very close relationship with her next door neighbor (Nancy Slough) with whom she loved to go jogging, drink lattes, and swap tips for raising daughters with. Teri’s daughters married in 2006 and 2007, bringing two new sons to the family whom she adored and had a special connection with. Teri touched many lives, which became evident during the weekend of her passing as she was constantly surrounded by her family and closest friends. Her time with those who loved her dearly was much too short but lived to the fullest. A Celebration of Teri’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23 at St. Catherine Parish, 8500 8th Ave NE Seattle, WA. Memorial donations may be made in Teri’s name to Northwest Kidney Centers Foundation, PO Box 3035, Seattle, WA 98114 www.nwkidney.org

So Sorry to hear of Teri's passing. She and I had quite an adventure many years ago. She met me in Europe and we traveled around together. We had lots of fun and some scary times as well as we were very young. She was a great friend at that time. Other life's travels separated us over the years and I just today learned of her passing.

It is obvious that Theresa was an amazing person because of the kind of woman and teacher her daughter, Shelby, is. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My son Brian, likened losing Teri to losing our Dad. My sons have only stories to love their Grandpa Bud and her grandchildren will need all of our Teri stories to get to know her, but we've got plenty to share. Peach (Little Sister)

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.

Teri was always one of my sweetest nieces. My memory of her is when she came to be with Chris, my daughter. They loved to play dress up and one of their favorites was an old wedding dress I had bought at a sale. Don, my son and his pals would tease them and there was always a lot of laughter. Teri had a smile for every one and we will miss her very much. God bless her!
