Mariella Hawkins Obituary

MARIELLA M. HAWKINS (NEE YOUNG) HAMMOND, IN/MICHIGAN Mariella M. Hawkins, age 83, of Hammond, formerly of St. John, MI, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at St. James Hospice in Chicago Heights, IL. She is survived by three daughters: Janita (Tom) Terwilliger of Crossville, TN, Pamela Goodfellow of Manistee, MI and Tamera (Randy) Unger of Grand Rapids, MI; one son, Douglas (Connie) Goodfellow of Hammond; eight grandchildren: Nathan (Cori), Matthew (Trish), Aaron and Timothy Goodfellow, Rebecca (Jeremy) Wilkerson, Miriam (Johnny) Zurek, and Jason and Jordan (Cindy) Wicker; 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Robert Hawkins on May 30, 1999; and one brother, Durwood Young. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Bocken Funeral Home, 7042 Kennedy Ave., Hammond (Hessville) with Dr. Roy Moffitt officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. Mrs. Hawkins will be buried next to her dear husband, Robert, on Monday, October 6, 2008 with committal services at 12:00 noon EST at Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids, MI. Mariella was born December 28, 1924 in Clinton County, Olive Township, MI and was a resident of the Eaton Rapids area until she moved to be near her family in 2005. She joined First Baptist Church of Hammond in October of 2006 and was an adopted member of the Ghana Missionary Circle. Mariella worked for over 22 years as an accountant for Berry Construction in Lansing, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ghana Circle of First Baptist Church of Hammond, 523 Sibley Street, Hammond, IN 46320.
