John Moton Obituary

WWII vet John Moton Jr. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch/ Erik M. Lunsford)
ST. LOUIS (AP) Funeral services will be Wednesday for a World War II hero who finally received his service medals 65 years after the war.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 93-year-old John Moton died in his sleep Sunday at his home in St. Louis. The Navy veteran fought on two oceans feeding ammunition to an anti-aircraft battery during the attack at Pearl Harbor, then serving on a destroyer escort in the North Atlantic.

Two years ago, Moton went to the office of U.S. Rep. William Lacy Clay on a matter unrelated to his service. An aide asked in passing if he had received his medals, and when she found out he had not, began to process of righting the wrong. Moton received the medals last year.
