Anchorage resident, Donald Carl Schroer, 87 passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., September 6, 2014 at Anchorage Lutheran Church, 1420 N Street, Anchorage. Don was born November 27, 1926 on a farm in Renville County, Minnesota to Herman and Anna (Seehusen) Schroer. Immediately following his high school in 1944, he honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Don married LaVonne Wohlman in 1950. Moving to Alaska in March, 1952, Don worked for Sunrise Bakery, and in 1956, started a career in Real Estate and Insurance. In 1968, he became a partner in Schroer-Fink. In the 1970's, Mr Schroer served as the Chairman of the Alaska Real Estate Commission and in the 1990's, he served as the Chairman of the Alaska Public Utilities Commission. Don was a member of Anchorage Lutheran Church, the Pioneers of Alaska, Rotary International, Crime Stoppers and other organization too numerous to mention. He was an avid duck hunter and fisherman and above all a loving family man. Mr. Schroer is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, LaVonne; his parents; and eight brothers and sisters. Don is survived by six children; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren; and one sister, Arlene. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Don's memory to the Anchorage Lutheran Church or the donor's choice of charity. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Alaska.
