Ian was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 30, 2001. Ian attended Kincaid Elementary School.
Ian enjoyed watching and playing every sport. He loved The University of Michigan Wolverines. He spent hours watching football and basketball, always pre-calling the shots. During football season, Ian spent Saturday mornings cheering on the Wolverines at the Peanut Farm with family and friends. Ian loved to travel. He had recently spent time in Mexico, Hawaii, Fiji, and he was able to achieve a life-long dream of attending the Big Ten Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis, IN with his mother, her companion, and Luke, his brother.
Ian loved to play baseball, soccer, flag football, and basketball. It was his goal to be a professional sports player. Ian also took on playing the saxophone in band this year. He was practicing the Michigan fight song to play at the Peanut Farm during the 2014-2015 football season.
Ian loved all animals. He had four cats, a dog named Oreo, and a three-foot iguana he named Sunshine. He loved to see animals in the zoo or the back yard. He loved to chase birds. He was afraid of sharks. Ian loved to be outdoors. He always wanted to bike to dinner or the lake, or go to the park with neighborhood friends. He loved hiking with his Mom and fishing with his Dad. His favorite place to go was Whittier where he would catch shrimp and fish for salmon. On the boat in Whittier is where he wanted to spend his birthday every year.
Ian is survived by Laura Johnston, his mother; Shawn Johnston, his father; Luke, his brother; Rachael Johnston, his step-mother; and Zoie Gonzalez, his step-sister; as well as numerous grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.
