Long time Anchorage resident James Columbus Emerson (Doc), 79, died of natural causes on January 31, 2014 while at his residence at Muldoon Manor in Anchorage, Alaska.

Dr. Emerson was born May 23, 1934 in Rawlins, Wyoming, to James C. Emerson and Lois Houston. He grew up in Pueblo, Colorado, and graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Colorado State University in 1966, and later received his Doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1978. He served honorably in the Marine Corps and was a Korean War veteran receiving multiple citations and awards for his service including; The Korean Service Medal, The United Nations Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He originally settled in Alaska in 1966 and worked for the Anchorage Borough as an air pollution specialist before deciding to return to college for his doctorate in Davenport, Iowa. Upon finishing his doctorate of chiropractic in 1978, he returned to Alaska. He worked as a chiropractor for 30 years before deciding to retire. He is survived by his five children: Carolyn Fesler, James Emerson, Deborah Bobbitt, William Emerson, Matthew Emerson, numerous grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 29 located at 1467 Muldoon Road in Anchorage. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the James C. Emerson Memorial Fund at Credit Union One.
