Jay Douglas Monson, 53, passed away on August 22nd at Providence Extended Care. He was born on November 24, 1959 at the old Providence Hospital on L Street. He attended Special Education classes in the Anchorage School District and graduated from the Career Center in Anchorage. He was active in the Special Olympics Program and won numerous medals. He enjoyed Bowling, Movies and Dancing with his best girl, Valerie Mothershed. He had been employed at Burlington Coat Factory.

Jay was a Star Trek "Trekkie". He had attended Star Trek Conventions in Anchorage and Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Monson on March 8, 1975 and his father, Jerry Monson on May 15, 2007.
He is survived by his mother, Jan Monson of Goodyear, AZ; sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Marty Robinson of Litchfield Park, AZ; nieces, Kelly Robinson of Houston, TX and Lisa Robinson of Walnut Creek, CA; Uncle, Bob Monson of Meridian, ID; Great aunt and uncle, LaVaun and Bob Tvenstrup of Anchorage and numerous cousins and his special friends, Pattie and Michael Glencarelle.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 30th from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, 440 E. Klatt Rd. Memorial services will be on Saturday, August 31st at 1:00 P.M. at Anchorage Independent Baptist Church, 1801 E. 68th Ave. Private burial will be at a later date at Angelus Memorial Park.
