Laura Short, age 55, passed away on December 17, 2013 in Anchorage.

Laura was born in Ann Arbor, MI on April 12, 1958. She grew up in Lincoln Park, MI and joined the Army upon graduation from high school. While serving her country, she had an opportunity to travel the world, living in Oklahoma and Germany. She went on to graduate from Michigan State University with a degree in nursing after her service in the Army. In 1988 Laura married the love of her life, Colonel Robert Short and together they were stationed around the country during Bob's various assignments and settled in Anchorage in 1998.
Laura was a kind hearted person who loved her family, friend, and pets. Gardening was her passion and her garden blossomed during the long summer days in Anchorage.
Laura waged a long and courageous battle against cancer. Her strength was admired by many and her love for Bob and her daughter Hannah was the source of inspiration which allowed her to endure the battle with such tenacity.
Laura is survived by her devoted and loving husband Robert Short; daughter Hannah Short; sister Kathy Kitai; father Stephen Kitai; and cousin Paula Jones. Her Mother, Amy Howard, preceded her in death.
A celebration of life will be held at her home, Saturday, January 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. ; 2238 Hanning Bay Circle in Anchorage.
