Mike was born in Norfolk Virginia to a military family who moved to many different states. After graduating high school, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served in Vietnam and after being discharged he made his home in the Seattle, Washington area. Mike worked at Boeing and Bell telephone before moving to Alaska in 1972. After arriving in Alaska he worked for ATU until he retired in 1996. His next adventure was owning the Hideaway Club for 18 years. Mike was an avid Amateur radio operator from the age of 14 until his death. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, scuba diving, darts, bowling, golf and pool.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marta Baker and his father, George Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Maryanne Baker; sisters, Susan Maughan and Nora Harris. His children Michael A. Baker, daughters, Angela M Baker and Christina Baker , stepsons, Neil A Melbourne and Stephen Pooler, all from Anchorage. Also his grand children, Cody Frost Taylor Aikens, Katie Melbourne, Lily Melbourne, Logan Melbourne, Marcus Pooler and Isaac Pooler.
Mike will be missed by all the people he touched.
