W. Mike Sterling, 55, died Monday April 22, 2013, at his home in Talkeetna, AK. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 3rd at 6:00 p.m. at the Sheldon Hangar in Talkeetna.

Mike was educated at the University of Michigan where he received his B.A. in Anthropology, and also received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Alaska Pacific University, Anchorage.He was a teacher for many years in the Anchorage School District at Sand Lake Elementary School.
Mike never compromised in any area of his life, whether riding single track, writing and drawing in his cabin journals, or amusing his family with bad puns. He married his beloved wife Jyoti in 1983 and was a devoted father to their 2 children, Suvan and Gita. As a public school teacher, he inspired and motivated his students, for which he was awarded the prestigious Milken award on 2006. Mike's favorite hobbies included mountain biking and writing.
He leaves his friends and family a rich legacy of stories and memories to sustain us in the years to come. We are thankful that he made the world a better place, and we will miss him deeply and always.
