Anthony J. Terregino of Cranford and Peahala Park Long Beach Island died peacefully at home after a long illness on November 13, 2012. Mr. Terregino, Terry to most, loved the beach, his trumpet, music of the '40s, and WWII movies. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer four and a half years ago and cared for at home by his devoted wife, Marian. Mr. Terregino was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1923. He graduated from East Orange High School and Upsala College, having majored in Spanish and Education. He received a Master's degree from Columbia University Graduate School in Education. He supported himself through graduate school by playing jazz trumpet. He served in the army during WWII in the Pacific theatre as a code breaker, after receiving linguistic training in Chinese and Japanese at Harvard University. Students, teachers and administrators in the Cranford Public School system benefitted from his years as a Spanish teacher, director of special services, principal and assistant superintendent. His entire career was spent in this school system until his retirement in 1987. He remained active in the New Jersey Council of Education and the New Jersey Schoolmaster's Club until his illness.

He is survived by his wife Marian of 58 years; daughter Susan Terregino of Cranford; daughter Carol Terregino MD, son-in-law Nicholas Busa, of Mt Laurel New Jersey and their children Samantha and Alexander; and brother Sal and sister-in-law Ann.
