Benjamin Bookbinder, a civilian engineer for the military died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013. He was born in New York and moved to the Jersey Shore more than 60 years ago. He received his electrical degree from New York University. He served with the U.S. Signal Corps laboratory at Fort Monmouth for 38 years. Benjamin was a longtime member of the ERAD Electronic Warfare Laboratory and received the prestigious Commanders Award for continuous outstanding leadership and innovative management while chief of electromagnetic vulnerability and electronic counter measures division.
He is survived by his wife, Judith of Deal; his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Arthur Rosenberg and his grandchildren, all of Lexington, Mass.
Services are 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, 2130 Hwy. 35, Ocean Twp. with internment to follow at Chesed Shel Ames Cemetery, Neptune. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean Twp., is in charge of arrangements.
