Blanche Bankel, 88, of Whiting, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at her daughter's home. Blanche was born on March 15, 1925 in Irvington and lived in Union until moving to Beachwood in 1983, then moving to Whiting in 2003. She cherished spending time with her family and her love for dogs; Dagmar, Candy, Duchess, Dina, Samantha, and Zelda. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the VFW Post 9503, Bayville. She loved the Soap Operas, newspaper comics, scratch-off tickets, MLS Soccer, and the New York Yankees.
Blanche was predeceased by her husband, Edward H. Bankel, Sr. in 2005; her son-in-law, Lawrence B. McConkey; her sisters, Sophie, Stella, and Jennie; and her brothers, Walter, Edward, and Joseph. She is survived by her five children, Joan McConkey and her companion William Sabba of Whiting, Susan Paul and her husband Kevin of Flemington, Edward Bankel Jr. and his wife Lena of Lakewood, Brian Bankel and his partner Robert Marino of Springfield, and Lori Reehil and her husband William of North East, MD; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Gambolati and her husband Michael of Forest, VA, Sean McConkey and his fiancée Marybeth La Cicero, of Toms River, Stacy Jessica and her fiancée Timothy Park of Lakewood, Edward Bankel, III, also of Lakewood, Brandon Paul of Flemington, and Kristen Vacca of North East, VA. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Angelina, Aaliyah, Kharii, and Michael.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 8 and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, with a religious service at 10:30 a.m. at Carmona-Bolen Home For Funerals, 66 Lacey Road, Whiting.
